The successful candidate will be working with a diverse cohort of students, creating and implementing tailored teaching strategies to enhance the educational experience of learners with special educational needs. Key Responsibilities: * Teaching and Learning: Deliver high-quality, engaging lessons and support to students with ASD and complex needs in both primary and secondary school settings. Adapt teaching methods and resources to meet the individual needs of students with ASD and other complex conditions. Plan and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), parents, and other professionals. * Assessment and Monitoring: Regularly assess students' progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly. Monitor students' social, emotional, and academic development, ensuring a holistic approach to their education. Provide detailed reports on progress to parents, school leadership, and other stakeholders. * Collaboration: Work closely with the SENCO, classroom teachers, and support staff to provide a cohesive learning environment for SEND students. Collaborate with external professionals (e.g., educational psychologists, speech and language therapists) to support the individual needs of students. * Behaviour Management: Use proactive and positive behaviour management strategies to support students with complex needs. Create a safe and inclusive learning environment that promotes the well-being and emotional development of students. * Professional Development: Engage in regular professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in SEND education, particularly for ASD and complex needs. Stay updated on current best practices in SEND teaching and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement within the school. Essential Requirements: * Teaching Qualification: A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) in the UK. Specific training or qualification in SEND, particularly in ASD or complex needs, is highly desirable. Experience in working with SEND students, particularly those with ASD and complex needs, in both primary and secondary education settings. * Knowledge and Experience: Knowledge of current SEND legislation, strategies, and best practices for supporting students with ASD and complex needs. Proven experience in differentiating teaching methods to meet the needs of students with a variety of learning styles and abilities. * Skills and Abilities: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external agencies. Strong organisational and time management skills. Ability to adapt teaching approaches to suit the specific needs of individual students. Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with students with complex needs. * Personal Qualities: Passionate about working with SEND students and helping them reach their potential. A positive and proactive approach to teaching and behaviour management. Commitment to ongoing professional development in the field of SEND education. Desirable Qualifications/Experience:
* Post-graduate qualifications or specific training in ASD and complex needs (e.g., ASD-specific CPD, MLD, or PMLD).
* Experience in using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tools, including PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), sign language, or other communication aids.
* Experience working in an inclusive education environment with a strong understanding of how to create and maintain an inclusive classroom setting
