JOB DESCRIPTION AND TITLE
DOMICILIARY CARE ASSISTANT
Job Purpose: To provide personal, practical and social care of the highest standard to clients assigned to you, adhering to company policies and procedures and industry legislation at all times.
Reporting to: Registered Manager/Director
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Personal Care: To assist our clients with all aspects of personal care in accordance with the client’s individual care plan which may include the following tasks:
* Assistance with dressing and undressing
* Washing, bathing and showering
* Personal hygiene requirements
* Care of pressure areas
* Caring for the skin, teeth, mouth, hair and nails
* Positioning and movement of clients with poor mobility
* Prompting and administration of medication
* The management of incontinence
* Assistance with toileting and cleaning of toileting equipment
* Assistance with eating and drinking to meet nutritional and cultural needs
* Prompt reporting of changes to the client’s health or wellbeing
* Organising and managing medical and health-related appointments
* Ordering and management of medication
1. Social Care: To actively assist and support clients in all aspects of their social and emotional interests and wellbeing. Such tasks may include:
* Participating with our client in social, leisure and personal interests
* Providing companionship and emotional support to our clients and their families
* Organising and accompanying clients on outings and social engagements
* Assisting our clients to manage personal and financial affairs
* Organising and maintaining regular contact with our client’s family and friends
* Encouraging and assisting our clients to pursue and achieve personal goals and wishes
* To participate in meetings and reviews where the care worker’s direct knowledge of the care of the client is an essential element in the process
2. Domestic Care: To ensure that domestic tasks are completed to the highest standard. Such tasks may include:
* Washing and ironing of clothes and linen
* Food shopping and food stock rotation
* Cooking and serving well-balanced nutritious meals for our clients and their guests
* Cleaning and maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the client’s property
* Light garden and property maintenance
* Organising and maintaining garden and property maintenance and services
The above tasks should be delivered in line with the policies of Competent Healthcare Limited at all times. The dignity, safety and wellbeing of our clients are paramount. Our client’s independence and social, cultural and religious values should be promoted and respected without exception. Accurate records must be kept including all tasks completed, medication administration and detailing any financial transactions.
Any change or variation in the client’s care plan, health, well-being or circumstances should be reported without delay.

Person Specification
Key skills and abilities:
* The ability and desire to work as a domiciliary carer
* A resilient character capable of dealing with a variety of clients and situations
* Have the confidence and competence to work well both within a team and alone in ‘sole charge’ with clients in their home
* Be a confident cook and be willing to cook healthy and nutritious meals for clients and have an understanding of the importance of a well-balanced diet
* Have the aptitude to undertake and complete our training programme
* Have the ability to learn and to accept guidance on UK legislation, best practice and CQC regulations
* Be eligible to work in the UK with a clear police or criminal record check in the UK and/or country of origin or last residence
* Be patient and tolerant with the ability to allow clients to retain as much independence and dignity as possible.

* Be capable of running a household with efficiency
* Basic numerical skills
* Have the ability to accept guidance and have a desire to develop through experience, further training and qualifications

* Car Driver with a valid licence
* Car owner
* Hold an NVQ or QCF qualification in Health and Social Care
* Relevant care experience that can be checked and verified by way of written references
* Hold a social care qualification
* Have the desire and ability to progress to a more senior position and hold additional responsibilities
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: £11.00-£14.50 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 40 per week
