This post is for a Consultant in Spinal Surgery based at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This opportunity is due to the creation of a new post. The Spinal Surgery department sits within the Specialist Directorate of RJAH. We are looking to appoint someone who can help the trust develop specialist areas within the Spine Department which will help it maintain and enhance its status as a Specialist Provider in NHS.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for a full-time Consultant in Spinal Surgery. The appointee will be expected to provide advice and expertise through the full range of adult spinal disorders, both elective and emergency. The successful candidate will be expected to share the on-call rota (currently 1 in 9) with his/her colleagues. The appointee will play a role in the provision of spinal tumour service. We expect the appointee to help drive research projects in the department.
The contract for this is whole time - 10 PAs.
The Trust is committed to having measures in place that new consultant appointments are on a similar footing to other consultants within their department.

Job responsibilities
The Trust is looking to appoint a candidate who can add new and advanced surgical skills to the existing spinal department or with someone who has a track record in research and help in providing an axis point for clinical and academic research in the Centre of Spinal Disorders.
Person Specification
Professional training and qualifications
* Full GMC Registration
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Trauma and Orthopaedics or Neurosurgery via CCT/CESR (CP) - proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview/CESR or European Community Rights
* An appropriate higher surgical qualification
* Primary Medical Degree
* FRCS (Tr&Orth) (or Equivalent)
* PhD or MD
Experience
* Complex spinal fellowship
* Experience in all aspects of adult degenerative surgery
* Ability to perform and exposure to advanced surgical techniques related to Adult Spinal Surgery
* Experience or exposure to latest MIS Spine surgery techniques, including use of Navigation/robotics
* Experience with managing Metastatic Spinal Tumour patients
* Spinal elective and on-call experience at a Consultant Level
Clinical Audit
* Understanding of principles of audit
Teaching
* Evidence of strong commitment to training and support of junior colleagues
* Formal Teaching Qualification
* Experience of organising teaching courses
Academic Achievement, Research and Publication
* Good track record of research publications throughout their career. Demonstrate an interest in Research throughout their career
* Recent publications in the field of Adult Spine Surgery, with an experience of publishing case series, trials or literature reviews
