Role Details:
Quantity Surveyor – Motherwell Based
Altrad Major Projects business are currently expanding within our Commercial Function due to a portfolio of successes in the Scotland region, to support our growth we require a Quantity Surveyor on a permanent basis to produce monthly cost reports that meet project timescales while providing ownership of projects, responsibility for profitability and direct engagement with senior management.
The role is primarily based at our Motherwell office but some flexibility will be required and travel to our Renfrew office, as part of the opportunity you may be expected to attend site visits throughout the UK to ensure exposure to a wide range of disciplines and contracting methodology.
Reporting into the Commercial Manager, you will cover all aspects of Quantity Surveying, Commercial and Contract Management.
Key Responsibilities:
The appointed Quantity Surveyor will be required to ensure robust, accurate and timely cost and value reporting for projects and support the Commercial Manager’s requirements for reporting at business unit level.
When required you will liaise with operations personnel to ensure that all costs pertaining to labour, management, materials, plant and sub-contractors are properly processed and can be totally demonstrated to the Client accordingly.
Processes:
* Help ensure that internal commercial processes are adhered to within the business in line with Altrad AIMS procedures.
* Ensure that contractual requirements are met including adherence to contract schedules for valuations, certification & invoicing.
* Ensure that all aspects of client contract management systems / CEMAR are adhered to as and when required under the contract.
* Assist the Project Managers and operational teams to accurately price and track variations to scope to ensure best value for the business.
* Ensure that electronic and/or paperwork back up is maintained for audit input and all commercial transactions thus ensuring that same is available for any subsequent Client or in-house audit process.
* Ensure accurate forecasting of revenue, margin and cash flow for live and upcoming projects.
* Carry out cost management of tasks supported by the Commercial Manager and Project Managers
* Liaise with Operations personnel to ensure that the Altrad timesheet system is reconciled with the Client’s time writing process on a weekly basis, with any variances reported and processed in an appropriate manner.
Key Relationships:
* Ensure that the supply chain are engaged appropriately with the correct contract terms and conditions.
* Build and maintain strong client relationships.
* Be responsible for subcontract letting via internal subcontract management and procurement processes, from procurement through to final account.
* Prepare applications for payment in agreed client format as required.
* Liaise with the client, client representatives and other third parties on commercial issues, including agreement of variations, claims and additional payments.
* Contribute towards effective interaction between the Commercial Team and the operational site teams.
* Work with site management to forecast predicted spend and cash recovery and ensure that both are kept in line with target.
* Share best practice with others and be proactive in advising site teams on costs and management of budgets.
* Liaise pro-actively with the Director General Manager, Commercial Manager, Project Managers and Site Managers to ensure pro-active commercial management of projects, early identification of issues and implementation of recovery plans if required.
Key Measures & Targets:
* Liaise with Project Managers to provide accurate monthly forecasting of live and upcoming projects.
* Ability to challenge Project Managers on resources and costs on live and upcoming projects.
* Maintain contractual and company deadlines in line with monthly commercial calendar both internal and external.
* Drive margin growth through effective contract management, cost control and client and internal stakeholder engagement.
Key Requirements:
* Previous experience of the construction industry, preferably holding a position in the industry for the past 2-3years.
* Degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying.
* Experience preparing applications for payment and managing approval process with client through to certification.
* Previous experience of commercial management and procurement of subcontractor,measurement and control cycle, certification and accruals calculations.
* Ability to demonstrate knowledge of monthly reporting and cost vs value analysis.
* Have knowledge and experience in estimation of variations.
* Excellent communication, numeric and computer literacy skills, proficient in Microsoft Office.
* Excellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to work to tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
* Ability to work effectively in a tightly knit team environment, but also able to work under own initiative to ensure contractual compliance is maintained.
* NEC 3 and NEC 4 experience is desirable.
