Healthy Active Learning Community Connector - Sport Canterbury
Sport Canterbury is the Regional Sports Trust (RST) serving the Canterbury and West Coast region. Our Vision is Kia tokomaha ake, Kia kaha ake, Kia putuputu ake, (More People, More Active, More Often) and everything we do is about getting and keeping people engaged in sport and physical activity.
Healthy Active Learning is a joint government initiative between Sport NZ, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, and Health NZ - Te Whatu Ora. It supports schools and kura to improve the wellbeing of tamariki and rangatahi through healthy eating and drinking, and quality physical activity.
Sport Canterbury is seeking a motivated, proactive and collaborative Community Connector to join the Healthy Active Learning team in 2025.
A Healthy Active Learning Community Connector works with primary and intermediate school leaders, kaiako, kaimahi and community organisations to enhance the accessibility, quality and quantity of play, active recreation and sport within primary and intermediate schools. This is achieved by:
1. Working closely with Healthy Active Learning Facilitators to influence and develop an active and healthy school culture.
2. Understanding the unique needs of each school setting and community, in particular the needs of the tamariki and rangatahi within each school and community.
3. Supporting community Physical Activity providers to ensure the opportunities they provide meet the needs of tamariki & rangatahi.
4. Developing and maintaining relationships between schools and community Physical Activity providers.
5. The implementation of systems, structures and processes that support the sustainability of work completed.
Developing and maintaining strong meaningful relationships with schools, kura and community providers is a critical component of this role. This will enable strong connections with the wider community such as whānau, local health and physical activity providers to ensure a connected and coordinated approach to health and wellbeing outcomes for our tamariki.
This is a full-time permanent role based in our Ōtautahi | Christchurch office and may also occasionally involve work with the community outside of normal working hours. As a Healthy Active Learning Community Connector, you will have:
1. A relevant tertiary qualification that is related to Community Development, Education and/or Sport and Recreation.
2. Experience in designing and facilitating professional learning and development opportunities.
3. Experience working with schools | kura and with tamariki and rangatahi within a Physical Activity context.
4. Knowledge of the systems, structures and operating models that underpin primary and intermediate schools | kura, sport, active recreation and play sectors across Aotearoa.
5. Experience in planning, managing, and prioritising multiple and competing tasks and projects to meet deadlines and produce quality results.
6. A high level of verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and audiences.
7. A good understanding of Te Reo and tikanga Māori.
