We are looking to recruit an Apprentice Civil Engineer to join the UK’s largest and most diverse geotechnical and ground engineering contractor.
You will be involved in assisting the engineering team in all aspects of the construction process from design, estimating, planning to construction activities.
This is a perfect opportunity to gain valuable experience and to begin your engineering career working alongside a vastly experienced team.
You will follow structured training as part of an ICE-accredited programme. You will attend College on a day release basis working towards a Civil Engineering qualification.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Assist and support the management of site operations, to ensure safety, quality, cost effectiveness, timely production and customer satisfaction.
* Learn the aspects of planning and sequencing of operations, including writing method statements and risk assessments, and procuring sub-contractor, labour, plant and material resources.
* Implement operational quality control measures and QA processes.
* Develop work plans, method statements and risk assessments.
* Monitor the progress of project works.
* Take a proactive approach in the responsibility for Health and Safety ensuring all required documentation is in place.
* Ensure full communication across all management levels within the project.
* Ensure that safe working practices are followed.
* Complete quality inspections to ensure work is completed to a safe standard.
* Conduct self in a way that reflects and promotes the Van Elle company values.
* Understand and act in accordance with Van Elle’s policies and procedures.
* Any other tasks that you may reasonably be required to undertake.
Key Requirements
* Highers (B)/A Levels/Btec or HNC/HND equivalent in relevant subjects.
* IT competent in Microsoft packages.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Ability to work effectively to deadlines and under pressure.
* Good attention to detail and accuracy of work.
* Effective planning and organisation skills.
* A structured approach to problem solving.
* Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong analytical, maths and technical skills.
Other Requirements:
* Eligible to work and live in the UK.
* Flexibility to travel in the UK.
* A full driving licence, that is valid in the UK (desirable).
