Job summary
An exciting opportunity has come about for a new role within the Mental Health Liaison team (MHLT) as an Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist with specialist input into eating disorders.
This is a new post following investment by the ICB to move the MHLT towards core 24 provision and support the management of patients with eating disorder in the acute hospital setting.
You will work alongside 3 other Consultant psychiatrists as well as the multi-disciplinary team. You will provide senior medical advice, support, consultancy and clinical leadership to the MHLT at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham Hospital sites, but are employed by Gloucestershire Health and Care.
Please note due to internal factors this post has been updated to a maximum of 12 months fixed term position, dependant on available start date of the successful candidate.
Main duties of the job
Providing senior clinical leadership to the MHLT, reviewing complex patients in the medical/surgical wards and offering supervision and advice to non-medical colleagues and Core/Advanced Trainees.
Shared with the other Liaison Consultants, you will act as Responsible Clinician for GRH/CGH inpatients who are detained under the MHA to the general hospitals.
You will be expected to attend Mental Health Assessments for general hospital inpatient during normal working hours alongside colleagues.
The Liaison Consultant is expected to run a Medically Unexplained Symptoms Clinic once per week.
This role will take a lead for psychiatric assessment and management of all age patients with disordered eating admitted to the acute Trust. Providing support and oversight to medical colleagues in care of these patients, and working closely with colleagues from the eating disorders service.

Essential
1. GMC registered, on specialist register or eligible (or within 6 months of application)
2. MRCPsych completed or equivalent
3. S12 (or eligible for) Approved Clinician status (or eligible for)
Experience

4. Higher specialist training or equivalent in Adult General Psychiatry
Desirable
5. Experience of Liaison working at consultant or senior level
