An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and well-motivated individual to join the General Surgery and Urology Care Group as a Service Manager. The post will be based at York Hospital; however, there will be a requirement to travel and work at Scarborough Hospital.
The successful candidate requires excellent communication and team working skills and will work closely with clinical and non-clinical staff on a daily basis, organising and prioritising both their own workload and that of others. They must have the ability to exercise sound judgement in relation to problem solving and practice delegation, negotiation, and motivation skills. Most importantly, the candidate must have a flexible and patient-centred approach.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be required to:
* Provide management support on a daily basis, focusing on managing day-to-day operational issues to ensure the smooth running of all the directorate's services.
* Assist the Operational Service Manager in the maintenance and development of clinic/theatre timetables, junior doctor rotas, clinic templates, appointment systems, and theatre scheduling.
* Support the Operational Service Manager in investigating and responding to patient complaints and concerns in an appropriate and timely manner, in accordance with Trust policy.
* Monitor patient pathways, including undertaking activity and waiting list monitoring for both outpatient and inpatient patients to enable the specialty to meet access targets.
You will be responsible for line managing a team of secretarial and administrative staff. This includes acting as an appointment panel member, recruitment, conducting personal development reviews, and dealing with disciplinary, grievance, sickness absence, and performance issues.
You will ensure that appropriate training is delivered to staff and that individual staff members' work allocation is managed effectively and reallocated as required to best meet the needs of the service.

* Self-discipline/motivated to function independently, but also able to motivate others.
Knowledge, training and experience
* Educated to GCSE Level or equivalent, with Maths and English at C or above - or equivalent qualification/demonstrable experience.
* Educated to Degree Level or have equivalent experience.
* Previous Administrative experience (3 years minimum), including a minimum of 1 year's Staff Management/Supervisory experience.
* Word Processing and Computer literacy skills to RSA3/NVQ3 Level.
* Previous experience of dealing with sensitive and/or complex situations.
* Understanding of RTT 18-week pathway.
* Experience of working within the NHS.
Skills
* Able to organise and prioritise both own workload and that of others as required.
* Possess a range of developed communication skills.
* Able to function effectively as part of a Team.
* Have the ability to exercise sound judgement in relation to problem solving.
* Ability to practice delegation, negotiation, and motivation skills.
