Let us introduce the role AWE is currently recruiting for a Technical Support Specialist for the Radiation Protection and Dosimetry Group The Radiation Protection and Dosimetry Group are part of the Science function at AWE. We are responsible for providing legal and technical advice to a range of internal and external customers regarding health and safety in relation to working with radioactive materials and other sources of ionising radiation. No other organisation in the UK provides radiation protection and dosimetry advise across the same range of applications and customers. Our work covers everything from nuclear manufacturing facilities to forensic laboratories, new build facilities to decommissioning old ones and working on national security operations. Each present their own unique set of challenges meaning that every day is different. As a Technical Support Specialist, you will be supporting the delivery of core radiation protection across the Radiation Protection and Dosimetry Group. Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities will include: Co-ordinating and resourcing attendance for AWE emergency response exercises Liaising with external NHS partners to support training and development of joint emergency response plans Supporting training development management, reviewing training courses and modernising how training is delivered Delivering training to AWE employees/contractors and external partners in respect of radiological safety Supporting the management of the AWE Radioactive Item Registry and completing inventory and documentation inspections Leading or supporting projects identified as being required as part of continuous improvements or legislative changes Support maintenance of the RPDG SharePoint page Document control Supporting Radiation Protection Advisors/Health Physicists and leadership team with administrative tasks to support their roles Being a quality champion, leading the charge in continuous improvement efforts and fostering effective communications between departments and teams The role will also provide development opportunities to become a member of the Society of Radiation Protection or other relevant professional bodies. We would be interested in hearing from candidates who can demonstrate knowledge or experience in some of the following: Beneficial for the candidate to have working experience in areas such as health physics, dosimetry, environment, radioactive waste management, health and safety (ESH) or other associated fields. A good standard of education to include English and Maths at GCSE or equivalent. Strong computer skills in particular confident in the use of Excel. Experience in reading, analysing and interpreting charts, spreadsheets and schedules. Confident with building and maintaining effective internal and external relationships. Good communication skills (both verbal and written). Effective multi-task working, identify and manage priorities and work to challenging timescales. You'll need to have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority changing environment and be able to manage your own workload.
