Acute Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist
Are you a qualified nurse with current oncology or acute nursing experience looking to join a small but essential acute oncology nursing team?
We are seeking compassionate people with experience of working in a hospital environment to join our integrated trust, working predominantly at Yeovil District Hospital.
We value our RGNs highly, so development and training within this role will be offered and prioritised with opportunities for further progression.
There is an expectation that hours are worked flexibly over a rota basis which does include weekdays and occasional weekends.
Main Duties of the Job
The post holder will provide specialist services to cancer patients as outlined below:
1. To develop advanced clinical expertise with an emphasis on clinical examination and assessment skills and be able to manage patients with rapidly changing clinical conditions.
2. To focus on the management of life-threatening clinical situations associated with complications of cancer and its treatments.
3. Work in a clinic setting to assess, plan and deliver high quality emergency care to individuals with cancer.
4. To provide an assessment service to ensure responsive triage (via the cancer helpline including weekends and bank holidays) and implementation of appropriate and timely clinical care for patients with complications of diagnosed cancer and/or its associated anti-cancer therapies.
5. To ensure proactive delivery of preventative care to minimise the risks of the effects of cancer and its treatments.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse, educated to Degree level.
* Current NMC registration.
* High level of clinical expertise in an acute care setting.
* Advanced Communication skills training.
* Master's Degree.
* Non-Medical Prescribing Course / Qualification.
Experience
* Relevant and recent post-registration experience within a hospital setting.
* Relevant teaching experience.
* Experience in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care.
* Regional and National presentations or publications.
* Experience of change management and project development.
Additional Criteria
* Sound knowledge of the care and management of emergencies, particularly with reference to:
* Acute presentation of malignancy.
* Complications of disease process or progression including malignant spinal cord compression.
* Sound knowledge of various cancer-related treatments.
* Up-to-date knowledge of current evidence-based practice in nursing.
* Evidence of a good standard of literacy and English language skills.
* Ability to communicate in an articulate, professional way with people at all levels of understanding either face to face, on the telephone, email, or written communication.
* Empathy when giving sensitive information.
* Ability to work flexibly, prioritise own time and workload.
* Physically able to carry out the duties of the post.
* Able to undertake the higher-level clinical skills required for the specialist area.
* Ability to assess clinical situations and act appropriately.
* Ability to develop analytical skills to deal with interpreting complex clinical information.

* Standard keyboard skills/computer literacy to access and input Patient information systems, word processing and use of email.
