We are delighted to be recruiting to a newly created fixed term full time Practitioner Psychologist role. The successful applicant will be dedicating half their time joining our team of Psychological Professionals at Evelina London, and half their time with the newly formed Child and Young People Gender Service (CYPGS-London) established following the publication of the Cass Review Interim Report 2024.

Main duties of the job
Evelina London Psychological Professionals service 0.5wte
The post holder will be joining a diverse group of psychological professionals working across Evelina London. Our psychology services include:
* Paediatric Psychology (at St Thomas', and Royal Brompton Hospital, delivering embedded paediatric psychology services)
* Cleft Lip and Palate services (a regional and out-reach lifespan service)
* Paediatric Neurosciences (a regional and national multidisciplinary service for children with neurological and neurodevelopmental conditions)
The post holder will be supported to work clinically as part of the Evelina Psychology service most suited to their experience, knowledge and skills. Please contact the team to hear more about our services.
NHS Children and Young People's Gender Service Southern Hub, London
The post holder will be required to join a new team of professionals providing children and young people with an in-depth assessment of their needs, and a care plan will be developed with them and, if needed, those supporting them. Children and young people will be offered a range of care interventions. The team will also liaise with health professionals and other statutory and non-statutory services.
The post holder will provide clinical leadership, supervision and support to junior staff and be a source of clinical expertise to the multi-disciplinary team.

A new clinical pathway has been developed, based on the recommendations of The Cass Review Interim Report and the expertise of many clinicians from across the Northern and Southern Hubs.

There will be indirect work via liaison and consultation with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies. The role will also include teaching and training MDT colleagues, research, and evaluation and development of the psychology services in both roles. The post holder will be required to join a new team of professionals providing children and young people with an in-depth assessment of their needs, and a care plan will be developed with them and, if needed, those supporting them. Children and young people will be offered a range of care interventions such as individual therapy, family therapy, physical health support, or other mental health support for identified difficulties they may want help with. The team will also liaise with health professionals and other statutory and non-statutory services local to the child or young person to provide a bespoke package of care.

Experience
Essential
* Post qualification experience
* Experience delivering highly skilled psychological assessments, interventions, follow-up and data monitoring across at least 2 populations utilising at least 2 therapeutic models including CBT.
* Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts
* Experience of supervising pre-qualified psychologists including post-graduate students and other disciplines.
* Experience of providing both group based and individual interventions using evidence based psychological approaches
* Experience designing, conducting and leading on research activities at a doctorate level including service related research and audits
* Experience of teaching, training health professionals in psychological concepts
Desirable
* Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of patients within a physical health context, and a range of psychological needs of a complex nature
* Experience working with CYP experiencing gender related distress
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge
Essential
* Ability to cope with challenging caseloads and ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
* Ability to assess and monitor risk and draw up appropriate risk management plans.
* Ability to or working towards a supervision qualification with a view of supervising band 7 psychologist and pre-qualified psychologists with a clear understanding of theory and practice of psychology.
* Knowledge of psychological interventions, application and supervision of others
* Ability to provide consultation to other professional and non-professional groups

* Doctorate level qualification in clinical psychology, counselling psychology or health psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS)
