Job Title: Multiskilled Engineer (Mechanical Bias) Location: Felixstowe Reporting to: Maintenance Manager Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 08:00 - 16:30 (On-call 1 in 4 weeks) Salary: £42,000 £3,000 standby payment (potential earnings up to £45,000) Overtime: 1.5x weekday/Saturday, 2x Sunday (on a requirement basis) Benefits: 25 days holiday, life assurance, generous pension scheme (matches up to 10%) Role Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Multiskilled Engineer with a mechanical bias to join our dynamic engineering team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and continual improvement of our site equipment and facilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in both reactive and planned maintenance while contributing to process enhancements and equipment upgrades. Key Responsibilities: Engineering Maintenance & Coordination Undertake both reactive and preventative maintenance of all plant and equipment. Proactively manage tasks via the Maintenance Management System and liaise with key stakeholders to coordinate plant availability. Ensure safe isolation of equipment before commencing maintenance. Identify and propose improvements or upgrades to equipment and processes. Delegate and oversee work assigned to external contractors, ensuring quality and compliance. Troubleshoot and fault find on varied equipment, diagnosing issues across different systems and machinery. Conduct site inductions for contract partners and provide guidance as needed. Maintain efficient stock control and liaise with suppliers to manage spare parts. Compliance & Safety (QESH Standards) Ensure all work aligns with quality, environmental, safety, and health standards, including BRC, Halal, Kosher, and FAMIQS requirements. Keep up-to-date records of maintenance activities, CCP testing, and certification controls. Participate in audits and drive compliance improvements by resolving raised issues. Training & Operational Support Participate in the on-call rota (1 in 4 weeks) for mechanical support. Deliver mechanical training for shift operators on relevant equipment. Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs), safe systems of work, and toolbox talks. Continuous Improvement & Development Attend relevant training to enhance expertise and knowledge. Lead small-scale improvement projects using techniques such as root cause analysis. Contribute to site housekeeping, GMP audits, and ongoing operational enhancements. Key Relationships: Maintenance Manager Production Managers & Engineering Team Production and Laboratory Teams External Contractors & Suppliers Key Requirements: Essential Skills & Experience BTEC/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum 5 years' experience in a food, chemical, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of pumps, motors, valves, actuators, and other fluid distribution equipment. Experience in fault diagnosis and repair across mechanical and electrical systems. Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams. PC literate with a structured approach to documentation and record-keeping. Strong organisational skills, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads and manage time effectively. Desirable Skills & Qualifications Welding and fabrication experience PVC/ABS pipework repair and replacement Knowledge of electrical systems (up to 3-phase, 415V) Fork Truck Operating Certification Confined Space & Working at Height Training MEWP Access Training (Cherry Picker, Scissor Lift) Why Join Us?
