About us
City Operations, Neighbourhoods and Regulatory Services is the largest directorate within the Council with over 3000 staff who support the delivery of the Council priorities through a diverse range of services to the residents of Newcastle.
The role
As our Head of Service for Facility Services and Civic Management Division you will work to shape the council’s services for a broad range of functions. These are:
1. Facilities Operations
2. Business Development of Traded Services
3. Civic Facilities
4. Community Hubs & Libraries
You will manage the strategic relationships with Schools and Governors in relation to the provision of Facility services to schools.
Your role will also encompass a range of Traded Services for Caretaking, Cleaning, School Meals, and Welfare Catering with significant income targets and you will need the ability to act commercially whilst balancing political priorities.
Within Civic Facilities you will be responsible for building management and hospitality. It also includes a statutory service for Registrars and working in partnership with the Home Office. You would hold the position of designated ‘Proper Officer’ for Registration Services.
Your role would also be responsible for Bereavement and Registration Services and ensuring operations are carried out within strict compliance of the Law.
Your role in Libraries includes implementing national policies, and the provision of citizenship and leading on corporate complaints.
The role carries responsibility for a large workforce who range from operational, back office and specialised officers, many who are part time or work to a hybrid model.
New services to the division include Newcastle Furniture Service and Palatine beds, your role will be to work with the team to develop commercial solutions.
Cross Council responsibilities for your role will include supporting the Director in providing strategic leadership, vision and direction in line with delivery of the Cabinet’s political priorities. This will include the innovation of service delivery methods, business and financial performance improvements.
What we are looking for
An experienced professional with expertise and a proven track record in customer focused or operational services within a commercial environment.
Evidence of leadership and accountability for service performance and operational standards.
Effective communication skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships with a range of internal and external partners and stakeholders.
