Job Advertisement: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Teaching Personnel is seeking a committed and empathetic SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Wilmslow. This is a full-time position starting in January and running until the end of the academic year, with the potential for a permanent role based on performance.
About the Role:
As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support students who face social, emotional, and mental health challenges, helping them to thrive academically and personally. Working closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and other support staff, you will provide targeted interventions and ensure students feel safe, understood, and valued in their school environment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, both in and outside the classroom.
- Assist in implementing strategies and interventions tailored to individual students' needs.
- Promote emotional resilience and positive behavior in line with the school's policies.
- Work collaboratively with teachers to adapt lesson content and create inclusive learning experiences.
- Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to teaching staff, pastoral leads, and parents/carers.
- Act as a role model, fostering trust and building positive relationships with students.
- Support students during unstructured times, such as break and lunch, to encourage positive social interactions.

What We're Looking For:
The ideal candidate will:
- Have experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, or other behavioral or mental health challenges.
- Demonstrate empathy, patience, and the ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students.
- Be proactive, adaptable, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Show a strong commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of young people.
- Hold relevant qualifications or possess prior experience in a similar role (although not essential).
- Be available full-time from January through to the end of the academic year.
