In return for your hard work, we will offer you the following: Comprehensive learning and development programme Pay Reviews Paid DBS Check Pension scheme enrolment Free meal on shift Summary of duties The Facilities Assistant role provides a key service to all the homes and the organisation in supporting the Facilities and Health & Safety Manager in the management and development of all maintenance activities throughout Mission Care. Key responsibilities will include; Participating in and supporting a programme for maintaining the homes and other buildings to the high standard that is required ensuring that all appropriate regulations are adhered to. Responding to all maintenance requests, as directed by Facilities and Health & Safety Manager, in a timely, effective and efficient manner and delivering a high standard of work, customer satisfaction and meeting all applicable H&S and Environmental legislation requirements. Liaising with external contractors and cooperating with their requirements. Assisting in the moving of furniture, equipment and storage as directed by the Facilities and Health & Safety Manager. Carrying out fire and safety precautions in accordance with Mission Care requirements. Fixing and Repairing : Ability to handle general repairs, including fixing broken furniture, doors, windows, and appliances. Painting & Decorating : Touch-ups, repainting walls, and maintenance of interior decor to keep the environment fresh and inviting. Plumbing Repairs : Fixing leaky faucets, unclogging drains, or repairing broken pipes. Plumbing issues are common in any facility, and basic knowledge in this area is helpful. Electrical Work : Replacing light bulbs, checking fuses, and fixing simple electrical issues like faulty outlets or switches (depending on the regulations and whether you're certified). Emergency Lights & Alarms : Ensuring emergency systems (such as alarms and lighting) are functioning properly. Furniture Repair and Assembly : Ability to repair or assemble furniture, especially specialized equipment like wheelchairs, beds, and mobility aids. Woodwork : Repairing or replacing wooden structures, doors, or even installing handrails to ensure safety. Install Safety Features : Installing grab bars, handrails, non-slip mats, or ramps to improve safety and accessibility for residents with mobility challenges. Maintaining Accessible Areas : Ensuring that hallways, bathrooms, and entrances are clear, safe, and accessible for residents, especially those using wheelchairs or walkers. Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) : Performing basic checks and repairs on heating and cooling systems to ensure a comfortable environment. Filter Replacement : Changing air filters and ensuring that ventilation systems are working efficiently. Outdoor Maintenance : Lawn care, snow removal, and maintaining outdoor spaces to ensure safety, especially in the event of a fall or slippery conditions. Skills required as a Facilities Assistant To be considered for this post, you must have the following: Able to quickly troubleshoot and identify solutions to issues that arise, whether it's a broken appliance or a more complex repair. Attention to detail with an administrative ability. Ability to work to deadlines. A genuine empathy for older frail people and those with disabilities and their relatives Effective interpersonal and communication skills - To communicate effectively with both residents and the care team, especially when it comes to safety concerns or requests for repairs. Ability to be proactive in responding to maintenance requests Environmental and Health & Safety legislation COSHH regulations Technical awareness of maintenance trades, eg plumbing, electricity, heating These skills contribute to a safer, more comfortable living environment for residents while helping the care home run smoothly.
