What we’re looking for
This is an exciting opportunity to join an established team within the Naval Centre of Expertise in a challenging but rewarding role to help manage a mature client relationship. This position offers a unique chance to combine hybrid working with waterfront activity in a flexible and tailored approach.
The Naval Centre of Expertise (NCoE) Office is located in Bristol but the team is hybrid working at home with regular planned attendance in office and the successful applicant will enjoy the same opportunities for flexible working. The surveying element of the role offers a valuable opportunity to step out of the desk officer function and get out to actively engage at the waterfront end of the business. Full training towards gaining the technical authorisations for this aspect of the role will be given if the successful applicant is not already experienced in this area. We are looking for someone keen and self-driven to come join the team where we will support your development into this role.
The Lloyd's Register Naval sector is steadily growing and this is a really good opportunity to join us in a busy but very close-knit Naval team where we work hard for each other to generate the success we enjoy together. You must be able to achieve UK SC security clearance for this role and although there is no requirement to be based in the South West area, you need to be able to attend in the NCoE Bristol office when required.

The role
* To deliver the in-service certification and new-build assurance of boats and other small, specialised craft for NCoE clients ensuring that our client assets are surveyed and reported upon in a timely fashion in accordance with established processes and procedures. To engage with appropriate elements of our client’s organisation in pursuit of this objective offering specialist support and advice on technical matters and inspection standards. To manage the quality and veracity of data held within our databases for client assets and project manage the NCoE contract with UK MOD for small and specialised craft.
* To support in the application, maintenance and development of rules and codes for small and specialised craft.
* To support the development of sales opportunities for new-build and in-service boats within the Lloyd's Register Naval portfolio and act as responsible person for the team on projects where required.
* To deliver survey services on our client's small and specialised craft as required.
* To deliver appropriate training to internal and external candidates in accordance with areas of expertise within small and specialised craft sector.
* To offer support to service delivery and sales teams globally as they develop boat certification services in their region.
What you bring
* Degree qualified engineer, however, candidates with other qualifications and relevant industrial experience will be considered.
* Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
* Knowledge of class, statutory and industrial surveys with a working knowledge of international codes and standards applicable to the marine business stream would be beneficial.
* Membership of an appropriate professional institution (I. Eng or equivalent).
* Ability to work in accordance with professional codes of conduct.
* Excellent command (written and oral) in English language using relevant professional terminology.
* Must hold or be able to achieve UK SC security clearance.
