Job Description
Neilson Financial Services is seeking a mid-level Internal Communications & PR Manager to drive our internal communications strategy and support partner-facing messaging. In this role, you will ensure that employees across all regions are informed, engaged, and aligned with our company’s mission and values. You will manage key internal communication channels – including our internal magazine ‘Wild Life’ – and maintain our employer brand presence on platforms like LinkedIn, Indeed, and Glassdoor.
Note: This role is focused on internal communications and employer branding; it does not involve leading external PR campaigns, though you will collaborate on reviewing partner press releases and ensuring consistent brand messaging.
Key Responsibilities
* Internal Magazine (Wild Life): Lead the production of the company’s internal magazine Wild Life for all locations. Plan content calendars, coordinate contributions (stories, interviews, features) from various departments, write and edit articles, and oversee design and distribution. Ensure the magazine reflects company culture and celebrates employee achievements to boost engagement.
* Executive Communications: Support the C-suite in drafting and sending company-wide communications. This includes writing clear, engaging email announcements, newsletters, and memos on behalf of executives (CEO, COO, etc.), such as policy updates, organizational changes, and success stories. Ensure tone and messaging are consistent with leadership’s voice and company values.
* Employer Brand Online Profiles: Manage and regularly update Neilson’s presence on LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, and other employer review or recruitment platforms. Keep company profiles up to date with fresh content (company news, culture highlights, job postings) and ensure branding is consistent. Monitor and respond to comments or inquiries in coordination with HR, addressing any reviews or questions professionally to maintain a positive employer image.
* Employee Feedback & Employer Reviews: Track and analyse feedback from employer brand platforms (e.g., Glassdoor reviews, Indeed company ratings). Prepare periodic reports on trends in employee feedback and employer ratings, sharing insights with HR and leadership. Highlight strengths and address areas of improvement in internal communications, using this data to inform engagement initiatives.
* Corporate Website Content: Update and edit content on the corporate website (NeilsonFS.com) to ensure information is current and on-brand. This includes refreshing the careers page, news releases, about us sections, and any partner-related content. Work with the web development team or use CMS tools to publish new content and ensure consistency in tone across all web pages.
* Partner Communications Support: Review and refine press releases or announcements drafted by our partners that involve Neilson Financial Services. Ensure accuracy of information and alignment with our brand voice and messaging guidelines. Provide feedback or edits to partners and, when needed, contribute quotes or content that represent Neilson appropriately. While you won’t run external PR campaigns, you’ll act as a guardian of Neilson’s brand in joint communications.
* General Internal Comms & Branding Projects: Contribute to other internal communication initiatives as required. This may include supporting internal events (e.g., town halls, staff webinars), creating infographics or slide decks for internal use, driving employee engagement campaigns, and ensuring all internal messaging (from emails to office posters) adheres to Neilson’s brand and values. Be a go-to resource for crafting clear, consistent messages for any internal project or change management
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
* Education & Background: Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or a related field (or equivalent work experience). Ideally 3-5 years of experience in internal communications, corporate communications, or PR, preferably in a mid-sized or large organization.
* Writing and Editing: Exceptional written communication skills with a keen eye for detail. Ability to craft compelling narratives and clear messages for diverse audiences. Experience in ghost writing or drafting messages for senior executives is a strong plus.
* Digital Communication Tools: Hands-on experience managing content on intranets or websites (CMS proficiency) and using email distribution tools for company-wide messages. Familiarity with social media and employer branding platforms (LinkedIn company pages, Glassdoor employer centre, Indeed company pages) and how to update and analyse them.
* Analytical Abilities: Comfortable with gathering and interpreting data related to communications (e.g., email open rates, intranet engagement metrics, Glassdoor analytics). Able to generate insights from employee feedback and engagement data, and present findings to management.
* Project Management: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects (magazine production schedules, email calendars, website updates) simultaneously. Ability to meet deadlines and coordinate with cross-functional teams (HR, IT, Marketing, external partners) to execute communication plans.
* Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to work closely with senior leaders, understand their communication needs, and provide counsel on messaging. Confidence to liaise with external partners’ PR/Comms teams when reviewing joint communications.
* Industry Knowledge: Understanding of or willingness to learn about the life insurance/financial services industry. While direct industry experience is not mandatory, the ability to quickly grasp industry terminology and compliance considerations in communications is important.
* Adaptability: Experience working in a fast-paced, possibly global environment. Able to adapt tone and content for different cultures and regions (UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia) as needed. Comfortable working in a hybrid/remote setting, with strong self-motivation and accountability.
Personal Qualities
* Excellent Communicator: You are a storyteller at heart with the ability to simplify complex information into engaging, accessible messages. You listen well and can tailor your communication to different audiences within the company.

* Proactive & Self-Motivated: You take initiative to identify communication needs or opportunities without always being directed. You stay ahead of deadlines and are resourceful in finding solutions to communication challenges.
* Creative Mindset: Innovative in finding new ways to engage employees. Whether it’s a fresh idea for an internal magazine feature or a fun twist on a company announcement, you bring creativity while staying aligned with the brand.
* Detail-Oriented & Reliable: Meticulous in proofreading and ensuring accuracy. You understand that internal communications often involve sensitive information and brand reputation, so you double-check facts and maintain high quality standards. Colleagues trust that you will deliver polished, error-free content.
* Resilient & Adaptable: Able to remain calm and professional under pressure, such as handling last-minute changes from executives or addressing unexpected internal news. You adapt quickly when priorities shift and can manage urgent communications in times of change or crisis with tact and composure.
* Passion for Culture: Genuinely interested in employee engagement and company culture. You act as a culture ambassador, ensuring that communications are not just informative but also foster a sense of community and shared purpose among “Neilsoners.”
