About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, resilient, and compassionate Senior Social Worker to join our client’s Children’s Services team. This is a crucial role dedicated to delivering high-quality social work services to vulnerable children, young people, and their families, in line with statutory legislation, departmental policy, and best practice. You’ll manage complex, high-risk caseloads while supporting less experienced staff and offering leadership where needed.

Key Responsibilities

Manage a complex and challenging caseload with autonomy, including safeguarding, child protection, care proceedings, and looking after children.

Provide direct line management to up to two social workers, including guidance, support, and formal supervision where appropriate.
*
Act as deputy to the Case Supervisor, supporting case direction, attending panels, and ensuring service quality.
*
Conduct thorough and timely assessments, analyse risk, and develop action plans to ensure the welfare of children.
*
Build effective relationships with children, families, and carers to promote resilience and reduce dependency on services.
*
Prepare high-quality court reports, attend hearings, and represent the Local Authority in legal proceedings.
*
Apply professional judgement and creativity to identify bespoke, innovative solutions to complex family needs.
Key Requirements
*
Qualified social worker with a recognised qualification (BA/MA in Social Work, DipSW, CQSW, etc.).
*
Registered with Social Work England (Provided Registration Number)
*
Significant post-qualification experience in a statutory children’s social care setting.
*
Strong understanding of child development, family dynamics, and safeguarding frameworks.
*
Experience managing complex cases and working within legal frameworks and court proceedings.
*
Confident in risk assessment, care planning, report writing, and case presentation.
*
Excellent communication, analytical, and organisational skills.
Desirable
*
Practice Educator (Stage 2) or willingness to train.
*
Knowledge of local authority policies, procedures, and models such as Signs of Safety.
*
Supervisory experience, particularly supporting ASYE or student placements.
Working Arrangements
*
Flexible/agile working is expected, including occasional evening or weekend work.
*
You must hold a current full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle (unless exempted due to a disability or health condition).
*
Enhanced DBS clearance is required.
*
Post holders may be asked to transfer between teams in response to service needs.
