The Medical Director has a key leadership role in an anchor organisation working across the 3 Integrated Care Systems of the Yorkshire health economy. Jointly with the Chief Paramedic, the Medical Director will provide expert clinical advice to the Board of Directors, Chief Executive, and Executive Team on all professional clinical issues in relation to the services provided by the Trust, including clinical strategy, clinical standards, appropriate treatment regimens, statutory duties with regard to clinical care, and clinical leadership in major incident situations. The Medical Director will drive improvements in patient care and develop new and innovative approaches to service delivery in urgent and emergency care, through strong evidence-based practice and collaborative working.
Main duties of the job
* Drive improvements in patient care and develop new and innovative approaches to service delivery in urgent and emergency care.
* Develop clinical leadership and support engagement with the Trust’s clinical workforce, maximising opportunities for the contribution of clinical professionals to the shaping of Trust and wider system clinical strategy and priorities.
* Fully participate as a member of the national forum of Medical Directors of Ambulance Trusts (NASMed), and other national fora in the ambulance sector, influencing the development of both national strategic policy and direct clinical practice in the ambulance sector (including JRCALC) and more widely in urgent and emergency care.
* Develop strong external system engagement and visibility in clinical networks nationally, regionally and across Yorkshire and bilaterally with clinical leadership in other ambulance trusts and in acute, community, mental health and primary care providers.
* Be the medical Responsible Officer (RO) for the Trust and provide clinical and managerial leadership for all medical staff within the Trust, maintaining appropriate process to support appraisal and revalidation of medical professionals.
* Actively promote Research & Development (R&D) relevant to the delivery of urgent and emergency care and support the development of R&D within the Trust.
