About the Role
Are you an experienced and passionate Archivist with a talent for preserving and promoting history? St Paul’s School is seeking an Archivist to manage and develop its extensive archive collection, which spans the school’s history from its foundation in 1509 to the present day. This is a maternity cover position on a 1-year fixed-term contract.
As the Archivist, you will oversee the preservation, administration, promotion, and utilisation of both physical and digital collections. Your role will involve curating and cataloguing materials, contributing to the teaching and learning experience, responding to enquiries, and engaging with the community through exhibitions and events. You will also work closely with the St Paul’s Juniors Archivist to harmonise the management of on-site collections.
Key Responsibilities
* Identify, sort, classify, and catalogue archive materials using modern archival standards and automated systems (Adlib).
* Manage archival policies and procedures, including collection, access, and digitisation strategies.
* Promote the archives through exhibitions, presentations, and collaborations with the Kayton Library and teaching staff.
* Engage with students, staff, and the wider community to encourage archival research and historical exploration.
* Respond to enquiries from alumni, staff, pupils, and the public, ensuring sensitive materials are managed appropriately.
* Supervise library assistants assigned to archive tasks and maintain health and safety documentation for the archives.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
* A postgraduate qualification in archives and records management recognised by the Archives and Records Association.
* Significant experience managing archives, including digital materials.
* Excellent IT skills and expertise in automated cataloguing to international standards.
* Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable:
* Experience with rare objects and art collections.
* Experience managing others and working with sensitive materials.

Salary and Benefits
* Hours: Term-Time (34 weeks) plus an additional 4 weeks. 35 hours per week, 9.00am – 5.00 pm, Monday – Friday. Other working patterns, including a job share, may be considered. Please specify details within the application form.
