Job Description
Animal-assisted therapy has been shown to promote emotional wellbeing, and contact with gentle animals provides comfort and helps people to be happier. Hato Hone St John has developed a programme to share animal companions within local rest homes, hospitals and schools within the local community.
Therapy Pets is a voluntary programme that enhances the lives of others, and we need your help! We are looking for a passionate and driven individual to become a Therapy Pet Team Leader for our Timaru team.
You will:
* Provide support and mentoring to the team of Therapy Pet Volunteers
* Recruit new volunteers, match volunteers and their pets with suitable facilities
* Liaise with facilities visited by volunteers
* Monthly reporting and liaising with local St John
* Organising recognition events and team connects
Please note, this is an unpaid voluntary position.
Qualifications
Ko wai koe - About you:
This role is flexible and can work around your availability, ideally you will be able to commit at least 2-3 hours per week. You have the option of joining the Therapy Pet volunteers with your pet, but this is not mandatory.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
* Excellent communication skills, an empathetic personality, and a genuine interest in the well-being of others
* Previous team management experience
* Love of animals (experience working with animals is a plus)
* Over 18 years of age
* Clean criminal record
