AA Euro Group are working with a leading Main Contractor and looking for a Design Manager to join their team for a new Data Centre Project in Wales.
Role Overview:
The Design Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of design coordination and integration on a large-scale Data Centre project. This role requires collaboration with internal teams, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure the successful delivery of the design in line with project timelines, budgets, and quality standards. The Design Manager will play a key role in ensuring that the project’s technical and design requirements are fully met, while maintaining close communication with the client and design teams.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design Coordination:
Manage and coordinate the design process from inception through to completion, ensuring that designs are developed in accordance with client requirements and project goals.
Work closely with the design consultants and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of design packages.
Review and approve technical drawings, designs, and specifications for MEP, architectural, and structural elements, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
2. Technical Oversight:
Ensure that all designs are fully coordinated with the wider project teams and meet both regulatory and industry standards.
Conduct design reviews, ensuring that all technical challenges are addressed and resolved.
Oversee the implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes and ensure that all design information is integrated into the project BIM model.
3. Client and Stakeholder Management:
Act as the main point of contact for the client regarding all design-related matters, providing regular updates and ensuring design intent is maintained throughout the project.
Liaise with internal project teams, subcontractors, and external consultants to ensure design requirements are clearly communicated and implemented.
4. Budget and Schedule Management:
Ensure that the design process aligns with project schedules and budget constraints.
Monitor and control design changes, ensuring that any variations are managed and communicated effectively, while minimizing impact on cost and time.
5. Quality and Compliance:
Ensure all designs adhere to quality standards and are compliant with relevant building regulations and safety guidelines.
Oversee design compliance checks and ensure that all statutory approvals are obtained.
Key Requirements:
1. Experience:
Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in design management roles, with a proven track record on data centre or mission-critical projects.
Experience working with a main contractor or large design consultancy on complex, high-value construction projects.
2. Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
Membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., RIBA, CIOB, ICE, CIBSE) is highly desirable.
3. Skills:
Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and design teams.
Proficiency in design coordination software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM 360.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering practical solutions to design challenges.
4. Additional Requirements:
Strong understanding of data centre design principles, including MEP integration, cooling systems, and mission-critical infrastructure.
Knowledge of the latest industry standards, regulations, and design best practices for data centre construction.
