Are you our new Head of Permanent Way? Do you want to help influence the direction of your team? Are you looking for an opportunity to step up? We are seeking a full-time experienced Permanent Way Engineer to contribute to the innovative and high-quality design solutions of our Rail Systems department.
To succeed in this role you must be suitably experienced in P/Way design engineering as well as having a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a relevant qualification. This position can be worked out of any of our UK offices. While there is no set location for this role, you should note it will require the ability to travel in line with business needs. Our Rail teams are currently located in London, Birmingham, Southampton, Frome, and Leeds.
Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:
* Lead the development of the UK based PWay team, drawing on global resources as required
* Carry out the duties of PWay Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) or Project Engineer (PE) as required
* Ensure internal and contractor’s design/construction/specialists’ personnel have the correct competencies
* Manage all PWay engineering activities on allocated projects so that they result in schemes that are affordable and meet programme requirements in a safe and environmentally responsible manner for time, cost, and quality
* Manage the design and/or construction elements of allocated projects ensuring they meet the requirements of current legislation, including construction design management (CDM) and CSM-RA regulations
* Provide advice in respect of all construction activities, including testing and commissioning and site supervision
* Assist the Head of Rail Systems UK in developing a culture of technical excellence by driving a right first-time approach
* Assist in the preparation of Tenders and proposals
* Undertake the checking, review, and approval of design in accordance with the Design Delivery programme
Key Deliverables for the first 12 months:
* Identify and secure work package pipeline
* Develop the UK PWay team to meet the demands of the pipeline
Your starting point for constant growth
* Degree/HNC with strong, demonstrable experience
* An understanding of the arrangements required for the independent assessment of work
* CDM, CSM-RA, risk assessment, engineering management competency
* Experience in people management
* A working knowledge of RSSB Group, Network Rail and other client Standards
* Specific experience of project development for PWay, NR approval processes and deliverables criteria for PWay projects
* Current or past CRE status or proven evidence of being appointed to act as CRE / Network Rail Project Engineer for a period of time
* Ideally, membership of (or working towards) the Permanent Way Institution
