This is an exciting development opportunity for a registered nurse with experience of working on surgical wards to join our established team in the Surgical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit at Sunderland Royal Hospital.
SDEC is the provision of same day care for emergency surgical patients who would otherwise be admitted to hospital. Under this care model, patients presenting at hospital with surgical conditions can be rapidly assessed, diagnosed and treated without being admitted to a ward, and if clinically safe to do so, will go home the same day their care is provided.
As this is a development opportunity you will initially be supported by and work alongside two of our experienced Band 7 Nurse Practitioners with a robust competency framework. After this you will have responsibility for clerking and reviewing less complex patients in the department. You will also assist with documenting on the ward rounds and complete SDEC documentation and referrals. Towards the end of this development opportunity you will work alongside one practitioner, clerking, reviewing, planning further care with the support of the Band 7 Nurse Practitioner.
Applicants must be NMC registered (Nursing), have a degree and have completed (or currently completing) the clinical skills course. You must possess good communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work independently and across disciplines as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
Interviews will be held on Monday 13th January 2025.
