Job overview
The infant feeding lead will have a key organisational role for developing and maintaining high standards of infant feeding across the Ashford and St Peter’s Hospital Trust. They will be an innovative practitioner and an effective change agent promoting evidence-based practice and maintaining/progressing Baby Friendly status for the Trust alongside BFI champions in NICU and Paediatrics areas.
Main duties of the job
1. Take the lead for planning, setting, maintaining, and evaluating agreed standards for infant feeding including developing strategies for achieving and sustaining the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative status.
2. Promote the public health benefits of breastfeeding and lead to improve the continuation of breastfeeding in line with Baby Friendly Initiative Standards.
3. Provide clinical specialist infant feeding support and advice where required alongside existing workforce using expert knowledge and judgement to provide individualised care/support packages.
4. Ensure there is a training strategy to provide foundation and updates for all members of the multidisciplinary team.
5. Identify the specific educational needs of individual parents and facilitate meeting those needs through the provision of specialist education, care, and support.
6. Contribute to the delivery of infant feeding training programmes and workshops for health professionals and women.
7. Implement and embed clinical practice changes which demonstrate evidence-based individualised care and detection of emergent themes within clinical areas through localised robust governance process.
8. Work in partnership with local services and providers to increase breastfeeding rates as part of improving health outcomes.
9. Monitor and audit progress towards achieving the standards required to achieve BFI accreditation.
Person specification
NMC registered Midwife or Nurse
* Degree/Diploma
* Knowledge surrounding service improvement
* Ability to communicate effectively to ensure high standards of care, service, or support
* Demonstrate leadership skills
* Further qualification or Training i.e., IBCLC
Experience
* Significant experience in Infant feeding support
* Experience of Quality improvement projects
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
