This role is responsible for providing VAT advice and compliance oversight across the UK business, ensuring adherence to HMRC regulations and group finance controls. The role involves reviewing VAT returns, Partial Exemption adjustments, and balance sheet reconciliations, while supporting the wider business and training the VAT team. You'll work closely with HMRC, auditors, and internal stakeholders to identify VAT savings opportunities and drive process improvements. You will be responsible for: Providing VAT advice which ensures that the business complies with all the relevant legislation, regulations and HMRC policy. Liaising with HMRC and the business regularly to ensure compliance obligations are met. Ensuring the UK businesses adhere to group fianance controls and that the HMRC Guidelines for Compliance for VAT (GfC8) are met. The role will also entail working with auditors, both internal and external as well as preparing the VAT section of the SAO certificate. Reviewing the Tesco PLC VAT group returns, Partial Exemption annual adjustments, Capital Goods Scheme adjustments before they are submitted to HMRC. Training and supporting the TBS VAT team to ensure they are capable and competent on all VAT compliance matters and that they are able to follow the correct processes in their roles. Thsi includes working with the Global VAT Reporting Tool and developing knowledge of how the ERP system works along with the multitude of other systems which feed into VAT compliance. Reviewing the VAT accounts for Balance Sheet purposes to ensure movements are as expected. I am also able to prepare the balance sheet reconciliations if required. Preparing, reviewing and updating Working Capital budgets and forecasts for the VAT accounts and liaising with Treasury on the cash pipe forecast for VAT payments/receipts Working with the business (particularly Finance and Treasury), external advisors and HMRC where appropriate. Looking for VAT savings where appropriate but also alert to potential improvements to systems and processes. You will need: Detailed understanding of VAT and the compliance obligations, combined with the ability to work with all areas of the business in a commercial and practical manner.
