An exciting opportunity has arisen to undertake a leadership role as Director of Chemistry within the Environmental Risk Sciences (ERS) Limited Division of Smithers. This position will manage the Chemistry Department based at our Harrogate site, as well as providing leadership to ResChem Analytical Limited, based in Derby.
Environmental Risk Sciences Limited provides a wide range of analytical and product chemistry support services for the pharmaceutical, agricultural, industrial and specialty chemical, and personal care industries. Our team includes experienced scientists and technicians offering a broad range of skills and areas of expertise. ResChem Analytical Limited has a respected reputation and extensive experience in the field of pesticide residue analysis covering a wide range of active ingredients and associated metabolites.
Reporting to the Managing Director of the Division, the incumbent of this role has a responsibility to conduct all work in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, and specifically those regulations (GLP) specified in the study plans, protocols, or work agreements governing the work in which they are involved.
This position is responsible for the direction and supervision of staff dedicated to conducting a broad range of regulated studies. The Director will also be responsible for the management and supervision of subordinate activities related to the conduct, analysis, evaluation and reporting of contracted studies. The individual ensures conformance to technical, quality assurance and financial performance objectives, and creates and maintains administrative procedures to attain high standards of data quality and reliability.
Qualifications and Experience
Educated to a minimum level of BSc/MSc or equivalent in Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, or a related subject, with relevant practical experience in a GLP environment, including working with Quality systems (GLP, GMP). Demonstrated experience in delivering scientific services, including OTD, Client Focus and Scheduling and Maximising Utilisation, as well as practical knowledge of Residue and Analytical Chemistry. Financial acumen including previous experience in managing a P&L is preferred.
Previous roles with a Management/ Leadership focus, with the ability to demonstrate team-based credibility and skills in making metrics-driven decisions leading to positive outcomes, preferably in an agrochemical environment.
Excellent ability to problem solve, IT skills, motivation, communication and organizational skills.
Previous involvement in leading process improvements would be advantageous.
