We are looking for an Instrumentation and Control Engineer for our Peterborough, Ontario site. BWXT NEC's Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world.
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Instrumentation & Controls Engineering Manager, this role entails supporting the technical direction for the overall project and supporting technical interfacing to both internal and external customers. The Instrumentation & Controls Engineering department largely focuses on the control systems and instrumentation involved within Fuel Handling Systems, other parts of the plant, tooling, medical isotope systems as well as remote delivery machines.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Prepare elementary drawings/schematics, electrical assembly drawings, single line diagrams, equipment specifications, technical documents in compliance with applicable codes & standards.
2. Liaise with personnel from various customer groups like design, operations, and maintenance to gather site-specific design information.
3. Execute walk downs of various equipment in the plant.
4. Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers.
5. Ensure designs comply with applicable company, technical, and regulatory standards.
6. Participate in design reviews and customer review meetings, providing stakeholder and design input.
7. Test execution/commissioning of complex equipment and systems.
8. Review selection of components and equipment (e.g., motors, cables, relays, junction boxes).
9. Adhere to on-time/on-budget criteria associated with project commitments and customer success.
10. Support the development and estimating of engineering proposals.
11. Ensure that design is done for manufacturability and complies with requirements.
12. Support customer relationships and ensure market alignment.
13. May support proposal development and review including scope review, estimating as well as technical presentations to the customer.
14. Help to identify project risks, analyze solutions, and take decisive action to resolve issues.
15. Provide assurance of health and safety associated with the execution of all projects and activities.
16. Short term travel may be required for the purpose of meeting with clients and stakeholders.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
1. B.A.Sc. in Electrical/Instrumentation & Control/Automation or related discipline Engineering.
2. Holds or working towards a current PEO license.
3. Typically requires 3 years’ experience in design engineering in Nuclear, Aerospace, Transportation, Oil and Gas, Mining, or other highly regulated and process-based design.
4. Demonstrated ability with supporting leadership on engineering projects over their complete EPC life cycles with little support.
5. Excellent written and oral communication skills, understandable by a diverse audience.
6. Creative problem-solving skills, outstanding analytical abilities, developing leadership skills and the ability to work in a team.
7. Flexibility to work remotely on short-term customer site assignments.
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:
1. Experience with IBM DOORS.
2. Experience in the CANDU Nuclear Industry.
3. Strong communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $65,000 and $102,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate.
