Otter Garden Centres is a thriving independent garden centre business with seven branches across the South West of England. We attract nearly 2 million visitors a year and pride ourselves on our values of family, community, personality and trust. We sell a wide range of carefully chosen products for gardens and homes that turn over more than £30m a year.
Our current Head of Buying is retiring in the Autumn this year and we are now looking for an experienced retail professional to take over this important management role within the business.
Requirements
* Working as part of the management team to develop the commercial strategy for the business.
* Leading the buying team to deliver budgeted sales, profit and stockholding targets.
* Ensuring we are constantly reacting to the changing needs of our customers offering them quality product ranges that are inspiring and value for money.
* Representing and achieving the best interests of the company through participation in buying groups and trade fairs.
* Developing excellent partnerships with new and existing suppliers.
* Ensuring the buying team has the skills, processes and training to meet our targets.
* Travel to branches, suppliers and trade fairs both in the UK and, on occasion, overseas.
About You
* An energetic team player and confident communicator who enjoys working for a fast-paced business.
* You will have excellent analytical and IT skills.
* You are open to maximising unexpected business opportunities and continuous learning.
* You will have been working at a senior level within the retail sector – this does not have to have been within garden centres.
Salary based on experience. Company pension and colleague discount scheme. Based at Ottery St Mary, Devon and reporting to our Managing Director. Relocation support would be offered to the right candidate.
