Job Description
If you’re a Mechanical Engineering graduate, with an enquiring mind; and you enjoy testing and improving things, then this job could be ideal for you.
You’ll be working for a business with a global reach. They manufacture a range of environmentally friendly, precision-engineered, highly reliable, safe and efficient rotating equipment for use across a range of industry sectors; for example on oil rigs or nuclear power sites.
The job is a nice mix of theoretical and practical work. You’ll be working very closely with the established New Product Development team of 5, to test and validate ideas and theories.
The primary aim of the role is to bring new products, product enhancements and technologies to the market.
There will be lots of tests to complete, taking readings, and evaluating data.
And you’ll get to use your problem-solving skills to come up with solutions. You should be the sort of person who enjoys working out the answers to problems yourself; for example using the internet, or manuals, or your university notes.
When you’ve done your tests, you’ll be presenting your findings to the team, and explaining how you came up with the results. A lot will be in written reports, but also sometimes in meetings; maybe putting a few slides together.
And at times you’ll be assisting with client demonstrations and training events.
PROSPECTS AND DEVELOPMENT
Training will be on the job, and you’ll be learning from experienced colleagues. You will need to be self-motivated, though, as you’ll be alone in the lab a lot. And you’ll need a willingness to learn.
The business likes to promote from within (which is why this job is available), and there are great long-term prospects. In a couple of years or so you could get the chance to be responsible for your own projects, helping to launch new products. There may even be some international travel.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
You’ll need a Mechanical Engineering related degree (or HND).
You should enjoy tinkering with things. And you’ll ideally have some experience with doing tests, preferably in a lab-type environment (for example a university project).
If you have some knowledge of rotating equipment that would be great, but no problem if not as you can learn about it.
You will need to have very good attention to detail, and be thorough; if you’re the sort of person who takes a risk because they think something may be ok then this job is not for you.
WHAT YOU'LL GET...
* An above average starting salary (amount will be discussed on the initial call).
* Flexible start/finish times
* Bonus scheme after qualifying period/pro rate for first year
* Healthcare cashback scheme
* 4% employer 4% employee pension contribution
* 4x life assurance
* Cycle to work scheme
WHERE YOU’LL BE DOING IT…
Eastbourne, on the south-coast. Some employees commute from other areas, including Brighton and Hastings. The offices are near to the train station. It’s preferred that you are already in commuting distance, but if you need to relocate then that’s ok- and some support will be given towards removal costs.
