Fairhaven Woodland & Water Garden is a stunning natural space dedicated to showcasing the beauty of woodland, water, and wildlife in a tranquil, eco-friendly setting. We host a variety of events and engage with our community to promote environmental education, well-being, and the appreciation of nature. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic General Manager to join our team and take the Trust to the next level.
Role Description
We are looking for an experienced General Manager with a background in tourism and a passion for the outdoors, and who’s ready for a new challenge. This is a full-time on-site role for a General Manager at Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden located in the heart of the Broads National Park, United Kingdom. The General Manager will oversee the daily operations, staff management, budgeting, and strategic planning of the garden. Leading a dedicated and experienced team, the successful applicant will enjoy a varied and rewarding role enabling people to experience and connect with this unique environment, and ensuring the overall success and growth of the garden.
Key responsibilities include:
* Creating an annual programme of events and activities suitable for this unique environment;
* Preparing and working to an annual budget to generate funds to manage this ancient woodland for generations to come;
* Seizing development opportunities and promoting the trust as a destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers;
* Working to create a 1, 2 and 5 year plan for management and development of the Gardens;
* Working with local tourism bodies to promote the garden, events and boat trips;
* Developing opportunities and projects to enhance the visitor experience;
* Reporting to the Board of Trustees;
* Managing the various requirements from outside authorities (such as local councils, Broads Authority, DEFRA, environment agency, drainage board etc);
* Ensuring health and safety of our visitors and staff alike.
Qualifications
* Leadership, Management, and Team-building skills
* Financial Management and Budgeting experience
* Organizational and Strategic Planning skills
* Strong Communication and Interpersonal skills
* Knowledge of Horticulture and Garden Management
* Experience in the tourism and hospitality industry is a plus
Personal Attributes
The ideal candidate would have a passion for the outdoors and the desire to share this with others. You will be a strong team player, with a track record in leading and managing staff and volunteers. Good communication skills are a must, to create a welcoming atmosphere and for positive engagement with the team and visitors alike. Having the ability to ‘think around corners’ to solve problems and turn challenges into successes is a key attribute. Experience of working in woodland conservation or a related industry would be a benefit, although our brilliant garden team will be able to advise on this if you don’t have previous / related industry experience.
