An exciting opportunity has arisen for an advanced practitioner physiotherapist to join Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust as part of our MSK orthopaedic service to take lead in the clinical delivery and leadership of the lower limb pathway.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate significant post graduate clinical knowledge of this specialist field, including working at band 6 level within the NHS. You must also be able to demonstrate flexibility, good time management skills, organisational skills, and evidence of self-motivation.
The workload will predominantly be delivered in an outpatient setting (including supporting consultant clinics), however it will also involve an element of inpatient activity. As a key member of the multi-disciplinary team you will work closely with the medical staff and other professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to the management of patients with lower limb disorders.
A significant component of the post will involve operational support, training and development of staff and delivering extended roles practice within the MSK orthopaedic service. Applicants must therefore be able to demonstrate leadership skills to assist in the development and growth of the lower limb pathway and influence service improvement. You will play an active role in audits and research.
Main duties of the job
To take the lead role in advanced practice and leadership of MSK Orthopaedics within the physiotherapy service.
Work as an autonomous practitioner, using highly skilled and specialised diagnostic, assessment and treatment techniques within the Lower Limb specialty in MSK Orthopaedics.
The post holder will demonstrate significant musculoskeletal experience and will provide high quality care to an independent caseload with a musculoskeletal or orthopaedic disorder.
To help develop an extended scope of practice beyond the current physiotherapy practice.

To determine clinical diagnosis and develop effective clinical and therapeutic management plans and pathways for patients presenting in consultant clinics or physiotherapy services (inpatient and outpatient) delivered by Gateshead.
The post holder will have a prominent role within the team ensuring high quality specialist clinical care within MSK Orthopaedics.
Demonstrate a high level of complex decision making in relation to the assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation of patient care.
Access to diagnostic tests in line with evidence based practice (EBP), NICE guidelines and pathways of care.
To provide training, advice and clinical education to service providers, service users and service commissioners.
To work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team and physiotherapy team.
In conjunction with the physiotherapy service lead review, develop and organise the co-ordination of the department in order to meet service and Trust objectives.
The post holder may be expected to contribute to extended hours of work as necessary e.g. evening clinics +/- weekend working.

Qualifications
Essential
* To hold a degree or equivalent diploma in Physiotherapy
* Be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Desirable
* Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)
* PgDip in injection therapy
* Leadership Training
Experience
Essential
* Have extensive post registration experience including work within MSK Orthopaedic physiotherapy
* To have expert knowledge and experience in the assessment, treatment and non-surgical management of patients with highly complex conditions to act in a role extended beyond the usual scope of physiotherapy.
* To demonstrate expert knowledge and experience to determine clinical diagnosis for managing MSK presentations within secondary care.
Desirable
* Experience of working as an advanced physiotherapist in a complex secondary care organisation
