Axcis are pleased to be working with a special educational needs school in Somerset who are looking to recruit an experienced support assistant to provide one to one support for a pupil with Autism in year 8.
About the Role:
The role of an autism support assistant is a varied role that will require empathy and resilience, experience employing targeted strategies to support students with autism and a genuine passion for working with pupils with special educational needs. Each day will vary, but generally you can expect to support with the following:
1. Settling in and supporting transitions throughout the school day.
2. Using visual aids, timetables and charts to prepare pupil.
3. Using PECS and Makaton to communicate.
4. Recognise signs of distress and employ strategies such as sensory breaks and stories to de-escalate.
5. Help with mealtimes and ensuring safe play during breaktimes.
6. Monitor and record progress and feedback to class teacher and parents/carers.
Key Details:
Salary: £83.40 - £90 per day
Hours: 8.15am – 3.30pm
Contract Type: Full-time with potential for permanent placement for the right candidate
