Our laboratories are UKAS accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 and, where applicable the Environment Agency MCERTS Performance Standard for soils. Key Duties include, but not limited to: - Supervision of staff to ensure the generation of accurate and timely data in line with client expectations and UKAS standards. - Maintenance of the Eurofins Chemtest Quality Management System including root cause analysis PT investigations and control chart monitoring. - Assistance in maintenance programmes for the Departments specific analytical instrumentation and any other analytical equipment used by the Department. Maintenance procedures shall ensure that instruments are kept in a clean and serviceable condition and that routine in house maintenance procedures are kept up to date. - Working knowledge of ICP-OES / ICP-MS and/or flow injection instrumentation is required discrete analyser and traditional methods experience would also be a bonus. - People management - responsibility for the team on a day to-day-basis i.e. sickness, back to work interviews, annual leave and productivity, task allocation/prioritization. - Overseeing : Maintenance, storage and labelling of adequate stocks of reagents, standards and consumables are all in control. - Consultation with the Divisional Manager when turnaround deadlines cannot be met with reasons and proposals to remedy the problem, including when insufficient resources are available to fulfill the duties of the Department. - Managing the performance, training and development of staff and conducting their appraisals in line with Company policies and procedures. Areas of discipline considered to be outside of the responsibility of this role must be reported to the Divisional Manager. - To stand in for the laboratory manager in meetings etc. when required. - Control the Ordering of consumables and liaise with suppliers for alternative products when dispatch dates cannot be met. - Engaging with engineers when necessary ensuring that all the instruments are maintained annually (PM). - Maintain and drive divisions internal TAT target(s) and KPI target(s) - Degree/HNC or equivalent experience - Science (see qualification requirements above and align one way or another) - 3-5 years relevant work experience - analytical chemistry (environmental chemistry is desirable) - Attention to detail is an essential requirement - People Management skills - Organisational skills - Communication skills - Accuracy - Problem solving - Root cause analysis - PC literate - Intermediate - Relevant previous analytical experience - Numerical & verbal reasoning - Understanding of/training in several of the department's methods.
