Job Purpose
* To work under the instruction and guidance of teaching/senior staff to assist with teaching and learning and associated activities.
* This may include: assisting with planning, delivery and evaluation of learning activities; covering classes; supporting in whole classes; working with individuals and small groups of students.
General Duties
* To follow TiLA and Fonthill policies and procedures, especially those relating to child protection and health and safety.
* Be aware of and support difference and ensure all students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
* Contribute to the overall ethos, work and aims of the school.
* Appreciate and support the role of other professionals.
* Participate in training and other learning activities and CPD as required.
* Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required.
* Assist with the supervision of students out of lesson times, including before school, break times, lunchtimes and after school.
* Accompany teaching staff and students on visits, trips and out of school activities as required.
* Contribute to the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the Leadership Team, SENDCo and class teachers.
* Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.
* Supervising and providing particular support for students, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
* Assist with the development and implementation of Learning Plans, Personal Handling Plans and Personal Care Plans.
* Establish constructive relationships with students and interact with them according to individual needs.
* To promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students (and staff).
* To encourage students to interact with others and enable activities led by the teacher/other relevant staff.
* Set challenging and demanding expectations, and promote self-esteem and independence.
* To promote good student behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with our policy.
* Providing toileting and hygiene support for students where necessary, following training appropriate to the ages of the pupils.
* Working with other professionals, such as speech therapists, Educational Psychologists and occupational therapists, as necessary.
* Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers to strengthen home links.
* To support the use of ICT and more traditional platforms as learning tools.
* Working with teachers/HLTAs to prepare and maintain an effective learning environment.
* When needed, provide clerical/administrative support e.g. photocopying, typing, examination invigilation, etc.
Teaching Assistant Duties
* Under the direction of the SENDCo/Inclusion Leaders, to carry out the following tasks as appropriate:
* To assist with the planning, delivery and evaluation of whole class learning activities, interventions and individual support.
* To work under the supervision of a teacher to plan, deliver and evaluate learning activities for small groups or individual students.
* To oversee and monitor students responses to learning activities and accurately maintain a record of student progress as directed.
* Ensure that detailed, accurate and objective and regular feedback is given to teachers and parents/carers on students achievement, progress, problems, etc.
* Be responsible for providing feedback to students in relation to progress and achievement.
* To support the social and emotional development of students to enable them to participate fully in education.
* To deliver Read Write Inc and be open to developing practice through coaching.
* Supervise/cover classes, ensuring students engage with and complete the work set by their teachers.
Fluency Duty
* The ability to converse at ease with pupils, parents and other users of the service and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
