Job summary The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated and skilled Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon to join our dynamic and supportive team. There are 3 Consultant Breast Surgeons and 2 Specialist Registrars, supported by 5 Clinical Nurse Specialists in breast cancer. There is a close working relationship with the Oncology and Genetics departments at the Sheffield Teaching Hospital. The department offers fast track services, family history clinics and follow up/ oncoplastic clinics. The whole range of breast surgical procedures are offered and are mostly undertaken as day surgery cases; from benign, via (localised) WLE and Oncoplastic procedures to immediate breast reconstructions, with or without axillary surgery (including TAD). Localisation techniques in the breast and axilla include, Magseed, Magtrace, radioisotope and/or Blue Dye. Implant based and LD reconstructions are offered in house. Other autologous reconstructions are offered in collaboration with Plastic surgeons at the Sheffield Teaching Hospital. Dedicated time has been set aside for an Oncoplastic MDT and most Oncoplastic patients are closely monitored in our dedicated wound clinic. The department is supported by an outstanding Breast Radiology department, which is also a hub for the National Breast Screening Programme in the region. The unit participates in national and international clinical trials. We are recruiting to ATNEC, EndoNET and LOLIPOP. We plan to participate in the TADPOLE study. Main duties of the job This is a 10 PA job, although equal consideration will be given to candidates wishing to work less than full time. There will be scheduled operating time with a minimum of three all day lists a month, a weekly cancer MDT, as well as a weekly dedicated Oncoplastic MDT. Clinic workload includes fast track clinics, results clinic, follow up/ Oncoplastic clinics and possibly oncology follow up clinics. The aim post is to replace a colleague. Furthermore, patients undergoing surgery are seen in a pre-operative consent clinic slot to explore and confirm treatment plan. More than 95% of procedures are undertaken as a day surgery case. We provide benign breast surgery, simple wide local excisions, a wide range of Oncoplastic procedures and mastectomies with or without immediate reconstruction. Reconstructive techniques offered in house are implant based and LD reconstruction. We offer sentinel lymph node biopsy, targeted axillary dissection and axillary lymph node clearance.
