Main duties of the job Applications are invited for a full-time or part-time Occupational Health Nurse/Advisor post to join our large multidisciplinary occupational health and wellbeing service. This is a replacement post based at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). It is a great opportunity to progress your career in occupational health. The Occupational Health team consists of 3 Consultant Occupational Physicians, a Lead OH Nurse, an Operations Manager, Speciality Trainees, Occupational Health Nurse/Advisors, OH staff nurses, Wellbeing practitioners, IT and administrative support. The OH Service has been SEQOHS accredited since 2012. We provide comprehensive OH and wellbeing services to approximately 13,000 Trust employees, 4,500 University employees, 4000 healthcare students and several local employers through income-generating contracts. Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities The successful applicant will be involved in all aspects of occupational health work, including clinical case management, pre-employment and fitness for work assessments, immunisation programmes, health surveillance, management of sharps of contamination incidents and health promotion. The department is open Monday – Friday 08:00 – 16:00 although you will need to have some flexibility around hours from time to time. Most of the duties are based at the Southampton General Hospital site but you may be required to work at other sites at planned times according to the needs of our clients. What We’re Looking For The successful applicant should be a Registered Nurse or Occupational Therapist with post-registration experience in occupational health. A qualification in Occupational Health is desiable but not essential. Our ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic occupational health nurse / OT with good communication skills, who want to work in a multidisciplinary team and is interested in progressing their career in occupational health. Although the advertised post is full-time, we may be able to accommodate a range of part-time options and also be willing to discuss a degree of flexibility and adjust the Job Plan to allow for partial remote working. Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development Knowledge and experience Essential criteria Experience and skill in administering drugs/vaccines via intramuscular route Experience in using Microsoft Office Apps such as Word and Excel Experience in liaising with patients and doing clinical consultations or health assessments A service orientated and client focused approach to work Demonstrates a clear understanding of professional accountability and adheres to it within practice Experience of challenging conversations with patients. Experience of history taking Provide evidence of supporting /manage a range of learners in practice. Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice. Desirable criteria Act in the role of Practice Assessor or supporting the progression of learners / supporting challenges as needed. Experience in managing data governance in an internal occupational health team. Experience of risk assessing for occupational hazards. Experience of delivering health promotion programmes. Experience of delivering health surveillance programmes across a large organisation. Experience administering medications under a Written Instruction or Patient Group Direction. Previous experience of immunisation/vaccination Experience of delivering training to managers/ wider organisation.
