About us
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is a supportive, busy, and innovative department. The Obstetric unit has approximately 6000 deliveries per annum with a large proportion of high-risk cases. The Delivery Suite is supported by a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and as such, attracts a large number of in-utero transfers. We have a tertiary referral Fetal Medicine Unit with 3 Consultants and 3 specialist midwives. We have specialist joint maternal medicine clinics with neurologists, rheumatologists, endocrinologists, haematologists, gastroenterologists, and cardiologists. We also work closely with perinatal psychiatrists as we are one of only a handful of hospitals in the UK to have a Mother and Baby Unit on site.
With regards to Gynaecology, we are an endometriosis centre and a tertiary referral centre for complex abortion care. There are also specialist clinics in the following areas: colposcopy, urogynaecology, vulval disease, perineal disorders, acute gynaecology, out-patient hysteroscopy, and early pregnancy. We also have a fertility unit staffed by 3 consultants.
