Design Office Manager
Jackson Hogg is delighted to be supporting with the appointment of a Design Office Manager, to work for a leading engineering consultancy who specialise in delivering on bespoke projects within heavy machinery engineering. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the successful planning and delivery of the design requirements/output of the mechanical and structural engineers across various sites, as well as direct line management of these design teams.
Responsibilities:
1. Line management of mechanical and structural design engineers across various sites.
2. Responsible for successful planning and delivery of the design requirements across structural and mechanical teams.
3. Coordinate effectively with project planning manager to develop resource loaded design programmes.
4. Set and drive completion of design team deliverables to agreed targets (cost, quality & time).
5. Report department metrics.
6. Manage and update design department resource plan weekly and monthly to ensure progression is achieved.
7. Monitor and manage changes to the design plan focused on reducing scope creep, design overspends and escalate as required.
8. Responsible for short- and medium-term resource forecasts to allow decisions on subcontract and recruitment.
9. Identify training requirements within the design team and manage and develop training when applicable.
Requirements:
1. HNC in Mechanical engineering with a recognised time served apprenticeship.
2. Extensive experience in a similar role, preferably within a design consultancy, design engineering, technical and/or project delivery environment.
3. Experience in design/drawing standards.
4. Strong people management experience.
5. Demonstratable experience of resource planning and task delivery.
6. Ability to plan, lead and manage teams effectively with experience setting achievable targets.
7. Be confident to challenge teams against deliverables with a focus on completion.
8. Be capable driving a team towards targets and creating an environment of accountability.
9. Be highly organised and able to prioritise workload.
10. Be proficient with MS Project for resource planning and reporting, and an advanced user of Excel.
11. Proficient in MS Office 365 packages.
