Technical Lead Developer (Unreal & Unity)

Security Clearance Requirements: BPSS minimum (SC preferable) (with the ability to obtain DV clearance)
In line with Metaverse VR Baseline Security requirements, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity and eligibility to work in the UK.
The Role
For this Technical Lead Developer Unreal & Unity position, we are looking for a motivated and skilled professional to join our XR Team. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to collaborate with the R&D team and contribute to ongoing and new defence and private sector projects. The role offers significant exposure to innovative technologies and will require close cooperation with both the XR and R&D teams.
As the Technical Lead Developer, your primary responsibility will be the structure and delivery of XR projects for clients in both the defence and private sectors, with a focus on Unreal or Unity Engine development. MVR is committed to continuous development and offers training opportunities for developers looking to diversify their skill set across areas such as web, mobile development, augmented reality (AR), and artificial intelligence (AI).
In addition to project development, you will take on an important secondary role involving horizon scanning—identifying and evaluating new opportunities to apply XR technologies. Your insights will contribute to modernising training solutions, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of client programs while supporting their long-term goals. This role is ideal for someone eager to lead and innovate within an expanding and dynamic tech environment.
Responsibilities include:
* Develop applications using games technologies.
* Write quality, efficient, and reusable C# code.
* Review code of other developers.
* Lead a team of other developers to develop applications collaboratively with effective use of source control.
* Generate appropriate documentation.
* Lead testing and deployment of projects.
* Provide clear and frequent communication with the XR Team Lead and Project Managers.
* Create career progress plans for Developers within your team.
* Input into design and implementation decisions for new business.
* Ensure support to relevant sub-contractors through the development and delivery process of supporting projects.
* Support research and development / horizon scanning.
* Any additional tasks to ensure the success of the role and support to the Business Unit.
Specialist Knowledge and Essential Skills:
* Strong C# skills with 4 years industry experience.
* Demonstrable experience of development with games technologies, providing examples of delivered projects.
* Demonstrable experience of XR development with examples of delivered projects.
* Experience leading a development team.
* Strong knowledge of source control and collaborative working.
* Knowledge of the full development pipeline including knowledge of other software packages including Source Control.
* Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or another relevant course.
Personal Skills:
* Strong attention to detail and organisational abilities.
* Strong communicator – Effective communication skills, both oral and written English with the ability to facilitate meetings.
* Takes initiative, acts with confidence, and works under own direction with a finesse for solving problems.
* An appreciation of prioritisation and deadlines.
* Professional, confident, with an ability to challenge decisions in a constructive manner.
* Motivated individual, able to maintain drive to complete tasks to achieve targets.
* Experience with software development.
* Experience/awareness of the MOD procurement process and steps associated with large system/product procurement.
