Lisa Marie is a lovely bubbly 50-year-old woman who lives with her brother Wayne and his family in Byker, Newcastle Upon Tyne. Lisa has complex health issues with physical and mental disabilities. She has epilepsy managed with medication and bowel issues that are also managed with medication. Lisa presents with developmental delay and has the mental capacity of an infant. She is looking for a personal assistant to help support her, her brother, and family with the daily care routines that have been developed to give her stability and structured care.
Lisa attends a daycare centre 5 days per week, so she is looking for a PA who can do short visits to support her brother with bathing routines and daycare preparation in the mornings. You would be required to assist with weekly observations under the instruction and after training from her brother, who manages all of Lisa’s medications.
Lisa is non-verbal but communicates her needs using hand signals and vocal noises. Once you get to know her, you will quickly learn her prompts and signals. She enjoys bath time and loves splashing around with her sensory toys. Lisa enjoys a wide variety of music, especially Barry Manilow and some modern boybands, but is not keen on rock or heavy metal music. She loves going on “road trips” in her brother’s van for family outings.
Lisa has a wicked sense of humour and loves people who are bubbly, outgoing, and full of fun. She will laugh at you if you have a mishap or are being silly to keep her entertained. While she can be shy and take time to engage, once she feels comfortable, you will see her cheeky side. Keep crisps and chocolate at hand, as Lisa is a true chocoholic and loves her Quavers.
This role includes full personal care and support with feeding when required. It involves the use of hoists and wheelchairs, so a good level of fitness is essential. The role requires someone very flexible, as it involves daily visits in the morning and early evening to assist Wayne with Lisa’s personal care. Days to be discussed.
There is a genuine occupational requirement for the holder of this post to be male/female in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and Equality Act 2010 schedule 9 paragraphs 1 – 4.
This vacancy will close as soon as a suitable candidate is appointed.
At the time of starting their employment, the successful candidate must have permission to work in the U.K.
