A Mechanical Engineering Manager plays a crucial role in the Aerospace and Defense industry, overseeing the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems and products. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Provide technical guidance and support to the engineering team. Develop and implement engineering processes and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee engineering projects and teams, help strategize, design, and manage projects at every stage, ensuring that the projects are completed efficiently, correctly, and on schedule.
* Oversee delivery of all projects to customer, ensuring delivery to time, cost and quality parameters.
* Manage and complete the Mechanical engineering and design within budget and planning, including change control and consistency with other disciplines.
* Client-facing with the ability to manage client expectations in relation to project scope.
* Participate in internal and external design reviews and be responsible for design acceptance by the client.
* Make independent decisions on issues, providing expert technical support within Mechanical Engineering.
* Lead projects in a multi-discipline environment and coordinate all Mechanical engineering and design with other disciplines.
* Carry out, check and approve Engineering and Design estimates, controlling and reporting all costs on allocated projects.
Required Skills (Technical Competency):
* Design proficiency in Transformation systems, Gears, Gear box and Marine engineering.
* Experienced with the production of mechanical specifications, scopes of work, calculations, drawings and schedules.
* Familiar with main design packages including Solid Edge, Siemens NX, AutoCAD etc.
* Result-oriented with a focus on client satisfaction and top-quality delivery.
* Ability to delegate effectively while maintaining oversight of the Mechanical discipline.
* Implement a solid change control procedure and communicate budget and planning consequences of changes to clients.
* Lead and motivate the team to achieve targets, even in case of setbacks.
* Chair design review meetings.
* Passion for teaching and coaching young Mechanical engineers and designers.
Requirements:
* Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
* Previous experience in a similar role within the Aerospace and Defense industry.
* Experience in heavy engineering industry, power transmission systems, gears and gear box.
* Strong knowledge of quality management systems and industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001).
* Proficient in root cause analysis and failure mode analysis techniques.
* Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
* Detail-oriented with a strong focus on team, quality and continuous improvement.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
