About the Role:
Myn is seeking a dedicated Illicit Tobacco and Underage Sales Officer to join a committed team in Surrey, focusing on reducing the sale of age-restricted and illicit products. If you have investigative experience, a knack for building strong partnerships, and a proactive approach to compliance, this role is an excellent fit. You'll be at the forefront of protecting public health by ensuring that products like tobacco, vapes, nitrous oxide, and knives are not sold to underage individuals and are legally compliant.
Key Responsibilities:
Compliance Checks: Conduct test purchases and assessments to ensure retailers are compliant with age-restricted product laws, focusing on tobacco, vapes, and related products.
Investigation and Evidence Gathering: Document non-compliance thoroughly, following legal protocols to support enforcement actions.
Partnership Coordination: Work closely with public health officials, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to create effective intervention strategies.
Community Engagement: Organise roadshows, publicity events, and collaborate with schools to promote awareness around age-restricted sales.
Report Generation: Prepare detailed reports on findings for potential prosecution or further action by relevant authorities.
What We’re Looking For:
Qualifications: Educated to ‘A’ level, HND standard, or equivalent experience. Previous practical experience in a relevant field is essential.
Skills and Experience:
- A successful track record in investigations
- Current knowledge of appropriate investigation techniques and criminal evidential rules.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
- Competence in conflict de-escalation and managing sensitive situations.
- Proficient in IT, particularly with MS Office and database systems, for effective data management and report generation.
- Skilled at working autonomously as well as within a team.
Requirements:
- Ability to demonstrate appropriate investigation and report writing skills.
- Ability to de-escalate conflict and manage difficult situations
- Full UK driver’s licence and access to a vehicle is a must.
- Satisfactory DBS clearance.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
