An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of Research and Innovation to support the Clinical Directorate. The purpose of this job is to address the fragility of the ambulance service and paramedicine R&I by appointing a visible R&I leader in order to contribute to the development and delivery R&I, inspire others, and create an R&I culture within WAST.
The Head of R&I will be an excellent clinical researcher working towards an established portfolio that can lead and inspire others in the field of ambulance clinical care. They will make a significant contribution to the Trust's R&I income, reputation, and the development of an R&I culture. They will take an active lead in R&I development and delivery. They will work closely with the Assistant Director of R&I on all aspects of management of the R&I portfolio, including leading the development of expanding the Trust R&I portfolio of activities.
The base will be agreed on recruitment and there are flexible working arrangements for staff to work remotely.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will develop collaborative leadership in R&I across the Trust, nationally and internationally, including other NHS Trusts, Higher Education, Industry, and voluntary and third-sector organisations.
The post holder will assist with the development of grant applications where the Trust acts as lead applicant, sponsor, or co-applicant and provide strategic advice on how best to facilitate these studies.
The post holder will oversee the development and work streams of R&I Officers within the department to ensure workloads are manageable and associated targets are being effectively met.
As part of the R&I Office and clinical leadership team, they will provide leadership and development for clinical staff, and take an active lead on research development and delivery.

Qualifications and Knowledge
* Educated at Masters degree level (or equivalent experience) in a related clinical field such as healthcare clinical practice
* Advanced knowledge of research techniques obtained through relevant qualifications or practical experience
* Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
* Research and innovation-based qualifications
* PhD in related field such as healthcare clinical practice or working towards.
Experience
* Experience of research and innovation, involving partnerships with patients, academia and/or industry- within the healthcare environment
* Registered Health Care Professional
* Ability to demonstrate experience and delivery across a wide range of research and innovation projects
* Experience of collaborating on, designing and implementing research and innovation projects
* Experience in project managing across organisations such as government, NHS, academic and private sector - e.g. project partnership agreements, project charters
* Research and innovation-based qualifications
* PhD in related field such as healthcare clinical practice or working towards
