Jesmond Engineering, an accredited, privately-owned independent engineering consultancy based in East Yorkshire, is seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to join our management team.
With over 20 years’ experience in the Aerospace & Defence market sector, as well as high tech applications in bio-chemical, chemical and other engineering industries, we specialise in providing structural design analysis, fluid flow simulation, bespoke software, training, testing and the supply of engineers.
Director of Engineering - up to £70k - Full Time - Permanent - Mon to Fri - Office based
This key role requires a strategic leader with the ability to drive technical engineering excellence across a multi-disciplinary team while balancing programme goals, quality, schedule and cost.
Reporting to the Managing Director and working with the Director of Operations to deliver innovative and reliable solutions to meet our client needs and high standards.
About the role
* Ownership of the company’s engineering capability including development and implementation of best practice. Ensuring that our people, processes and tools meet operational needs through development, optimisation and innovation.
* Providing technical guidance and approval of engineering deliverables.
* Developing and overseeing high-level KPIs for the engineering team.
* Ensuring compliance of engineering activities to relevant laws, regulations and industry standards including AS9100/ISO9001.
* Identifying technologies that can be used to improve the company’s products and services.
* Working with the Director of Operations to foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the company.
* Working within the management team to develop strategies to successfully reach new business opportunities.
* Building relationships with new and existing clients, gauging their needs and helping to develop proposals to address these needs.
* Represent the company at relevant conferences and events to build relationships with clients, industry partners and to stay up to date with new trends.
Knowledge, skills and experience
* Degree qualified in a relevant subject.
* Strong mechanical engineering simulation and analysis experience with a minimum of 10 years in a safety-critical engineering industry.
* In-depth understanding of mechanical engineering techniques including stress analysis, finite element analysis and computational fluid dynamics.
* Proven track record of leading technical engineering teams.
* Strategic thinker able to grow and manage engineering capability within the company.
* Extensive experience in project / technical management and delivery within relevant industry.
* In-depth knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices in engineering.
* Ability to operate effectively in a multi-tasking, dynamic environment, while maintaining a forward-thinking and customer-first attitude.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to build rapport within the organisation as well as with our key suppliers and partners.
* High level presentation and interpersonal skills, able to communicate and present ideas to clients in a way that produces understanding and impact that builds effective strategic relationships.
* Holder, or ability to achieve SC Clearance. Note: restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Security Clearance checks (SC).
* Chartered Engineer with an appropriate professional body or demonstrable capability to achieve this status is desirable.
