As a Senior Finance Assistant, you will provide support to Finance Assistants whilst assisting the Head of Finance in ensuring a seamless, efficient and accurate provision of financial support and advice.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Research Finance, you will be responsible for:
* General advice and support - assist in the preparation of monthly/quarterly project overviews, providing recommendations for action, attending meetings with the Finance Business Partner to discuss
* Training- Carry out financial training to those involved in financial and commercial tasks
* Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts
* Assist Head of Research Finance in ensuring appropriate processes, review procedures and training is in place within the team for costing and monitoring purposes.
* Assisting the team on complex financial calls or projects
* Ensuring external deadlines are met on projects, actively monitoring internal systems and emails
* Ensuring internal systems are up to date with latest templates and project information
* Weekly/Monthly/Quarterly data checking reports to ensure data integrity
* Updating and inputting into the debtors and creditors reports, highlighting any issues, and escalating as appropriate
* Assist in the implementation of new systems and procedures
* Participate in Senior Finance Assistant team meetings to share best practice
* Any ad hoc tasks required by the Senior Management Accountant
* Staff Management - you will be responsible for the day to day management of a team of two to three Finance Assistants through monitoring and distributing workload within the team and offer advice and support both in the team and across other teams
* Responsible for annual appraisals, and development of Finance Assistants within the team
* Provide support and training to Finance Assistants
The Successful Candidate
* You will ideally have a relevant Accountancy Qualification (HND, HNC or Degree).
* Knowledge of Research Grants and Contracts and/or Higher Education Sector is desirable
* Experience of supervising other members of staff is desirable
* You will have experience of implementing financial processes and procedures
* Experience of collating large amounts of data and summarising into reports
* Experience of explaining financial information to non-financial staff at all levels
* You will have a positive attitude, and well organised ensuring deadlines are met
* You should possess excelled IT skills, and a sound knowledge of Excel
* You should be a proven problem solver, and able to plan and organise workload
* Knowledge of Oracle ERP systems or WorkTribe would be beneficial but not essential
