The UCLH Clinical Education Team requires a focused, committed, enthusiastic individual with good management and leadership skills and specific knowledge and experience of Moving and Handling and education in healthcare.
The post holder will support the UCLH Head of Clinical Education to deliver the UCLH Education Strategy through collaboration with key stakeholders internal and external to the Trust, working in partnership to further develop stakeholder engagement and involvement in moving and handling ergonomics education and training to support a culture of learning and openness across professional groups.
The UCLH Moving and Handling Ergonomics Lead works as part of a multi-professional team that will develop, implement and evaluate the moving and handling ergonomics service to enhance patient safety and quality in health care delivery across specialties and professional groups. The UCLH Moving and Handling Ergonomics Lead is responsible for oversight of the day-to-day operations of the moving and handling ergonomics service. They will report to the UCLH Head of Clinical Education and lead the operation of the service, including input to the budget, equipment, and supplies procurement, in addition to oversight of service resources.
A key element of the role is to deliver a high-quality service within the UCH Education Centre and in-situ off and across sites. There is a strong focus on quality assurance and working in collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
Main duties of the job
The Moving and Handling Ergonomics Lead will act as a lead specialist within the Trust's Moving and Handling Ergonomics (MHE) Service with responsibility for the operational management and strategic planning under the direction of the Head of Clinical Education. They are responsible for:
* Effectively leading and day-to-day managing of the service and the associated financial resources.
* Ensuring optimal development of the workforce and workplace environments to support reduction of moving and handling risks.
* Facilitating the provision of high-quality education and training to support delivery of safe patient care across the Trust.
There are two key elements to the role and the service:
* Promoting, developing and providing ergonomic-based moving and handling education, training and support for all Trust employees, both clinical and non-clinical that promotes safety and well-being for all.
* Providing specialist ergonomic advice and consultancy for all UCLH NHS Foundation Trust sites, and to all staff groups, patients and carers, where appropriate, on moving and handling issues.
Examples of ergonomic advice and consultancy elements include InPhase investigation, clinical and non-clinical risk assessments, environmental and equipment planning and procurement, trials and support, clinical and non-clinical meetings.

The successful candidate must be an outstanding communicator, with the ability to work well autonomously and lead a team and service. You must demonstrate first-rate organizational and multi-tasking skills, prioritizing effectively and efficiently in a busy and fast-paced work environment.
The role acts as a subject matter expert (SME) in moving and handling practices and Human Factors Ergonomics (HFE), providing advice, assistance, and education on all aspects of moving and handling to all levels of the Trust. They will be responsible for maintaining an up-to-date moving and handling policy and be responsible for ward and department situated consultancy. The post-holder will be expected to deliver this across the Trust to high standards and in line with established educational principles, current evidence-based practice, and guidelines.
The efficient day-to-day leadership and management of the MHE Service is key to the role to ensure a flexible, accessible and sustainable service that meets the demands of the Trust. The post-holder will be responsible for continuous quality assurance and reviewing demand against capacity to ensure a service that is fit for purpose and delivered in accordance with Trust requirements.
The post-holder will also perform a senior role within the Clinical Education team and will be required to undertake the responsibilities of effective line management leadership, communication, and coaching.
