Locum Consultant in Paediatric Cardiology
We are looking for a dynamic individual to join the congenital cardiology team based at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) as a locum paediatric cardiologist with an interest in fetal cardiology.
The congenital cardiac unit comprises the paediatric cardiology, congenital cardiac surgery and adult congenital heart disease services and is the level 1 centre for the Yorkshire and Humber Congenital Cardiac Network, serving a population of approximately 5.5 million in Yorkshire, Humberside and Northern Trent. Services include all aspects of specialist tertiary care of congenital cardiac patients (children and adults) with the exception of transplantation and long-term mechanical cardiac assistance. The annual workload of the unit includes over 400 cardiac operations (children and adults), approximately 700 catheterisations (diagnostic, therapeutic, and electrophysiology studies/ablations) and over 10,000 outpatient consultations. A full range of children's services and many adult services are co-located on the LGI site. The service is managed by Leeds Children's Hospital CSU.
The successful applicant should possess MRCPCH/MRCP (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will deliver the fetal cardiology service with 2 other fetal cardiologists. It is expected that 2 fetal cardiology clinics will be scheduled per week but there may also be a need to cover additional fetal clinics when colleagues are away.
There will also be general paediatric cardiology clinics and a peripheral paediatric cardiology clinic at one of the hospitals in Yorkshire and the Humber. This post will involve a monthly paediatric aortic clinic, which will require multidisciplinary working with the clinical genetics team.
The post holder will join the general paediatric cardiology on-call rota compromising ward weeks and evening on-calls on a 1:11 basis. They will attend the weekly MDT and monthly governance meetings.
Involvement in service development, quality improvement, education and research will be encouraged.
