Approach Personnel is excited to be working with an award-winning geotechnical and geoenvironmental site investigation company with established offices across the UK.
Due to continued growth and our commitment to deliver site investigation projects nationwide, we have recently opened a further office in Durham to firmly establish our presence in Scotland. In recent years, our client has developed a significant client portfolio throughout Scotland, and this expansion supports our plans for sustained growth in the region.
The Role
Based out of our client’s office, your duties will comprise assisting with the organization and delivery of site investigation projects as assigned to you. This will include full accountability for all site-based logistics and activities and the effective site management of all technical, commercial, and HSEQ (health, safety, environment, and quality) components of each project and staff assigned to you and within your scope of responsibility.
Key performance indicators will be set in conjunction with the Regional Manager and Directors on an annual basis. As a guideline, you will be expected to ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with company procedures to a high standard, on time, and within budget. Key division of time spent on each part of the job will be set on an annual basis and reviewed regularly.

Day to Day
* Site walkovers and attendance at pre-start meetings
* Support the preparation of construction phase plans, incorporating RAMS
* Support the preparation of environmental management plans
* Support the preparation of site establishment and logistics plans
* Support the preparation of equipment and consumables lists and arrangement of purchases/orders
* Read, understand, and ensure compliance with project start-up information packs including specifications and drawings, drilling instructions, utility service drawings, and other project-related information
* Organisation, implementation, and supervision of the site work phase including all SHEQ components and compliance with all in-house procedures and audits
* Prepare and deliver site safety inductions and toolbox talks
* Review statutory utility service plans and prepare/issue permits to dig
* Demonstrate commercial awareness relating to contract variations and changes along with prompt and accurate notification to the Project Manager
* Exercise efficient cost control awareness
* Undertake accurate soil, rock core, and trial pit sampling and logging, including compilation of typed engineers logs and completion of chain of custodies
* Undertake (or supervise) in situ testing (e.g. hand vanes, DCP, soakaways)
* Technical report writing
* Post-fieldwork monitoring and surveying
* Monitor staff competency on site
* Monitor hours of work compliance on site
* Monitor drug and alcohol compliance on site.
About You
Essential:
* At least 1 year of experience in Construction, specifically Site Investigation
* BSc in relevant subject, e.g. Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, Geosciences, Geological and Earth Sciences, etc.
Advantageous but not essential:
* MSc in relevant subject, e.g. Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, Geosciences, Geological and Earth Sciences, etc.
* Working towards or the desire to achieve Chartered Status
* CSCS Card
* PTS (Personal Track Safety)
