We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to work within the Palliative care team at Kings College Hospital. We are seeking a dynamic, innovative and highly motivated nurse to join our team as a band 7 specialist palliative care nurse. This is a part time post of working 2 days per week, 9.5 hour days over a 7 day week. This post has been created due to a reduction in team member hours.
The palliative care team offers an advisory service to patients with palliative care needs and promotes excellence in end of life care across the Trust. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic individual who will contribute to the development of this dynamic multi-professional team and build on partnerships across the locality.
Main duties of the job
* To work as a clinical nurse specialist and effectively deliver an expert nursing service within the multi-professional palliative care team on the Denmark Hill site, based within the Cicely Saunders Institute.
* To manage a caseload of patients with specialist palliative care needs.
* Be an independent non-medical prescriber that will adhere to a clear scope of practice for prescribing in palliative care or willingness to work towards.
* Participate in providing a seven day face to face service.
* To assist in the development of evidence based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines.
* To establish and maintain clear lines of communication within palliative care to ensure cohesive multidisciplinary management of patients.
* To link with other palliative care and primary care providers to facilitate care in the community and minimize the challenges of care transition.
* To act as a role model to other nurses and support the delivery of palliative care education within the Trust.
* To engage in the team’s governance and service development program.

Person specification
Knowledge
* Significant post-registration experience, ideally a minimum of 2 years working autonomously in a palliative care environment.
* Ability to make complex assessments of palliative care patients and their families, providing appropriate advice for symptom management and suitable holistic support resulting in a comprehensive management plan.
* Ability to utilise evidence-based practice through research awareness and demonstrate how this relates to practice.
* Experience of participation in research and audit programmes.
Skills
* Evidence of leadership development skills.
* Computer literacy – ability to word process and interact with a number of different IT and hospital systems / clinical databases.
* Advanced assessment skills or willingness to develop these skills.
Qualifications
* Post registration qualification in Palliative care or relevant subject.
* Training in communication skills / advanced communication skills.
* NMC Registered Nurse with BSc in a health-related/ relevant subject or equivalent.
* Non-medical prescriber with V300 registration.
* Recognised teaching qualification / teaching experience.
* Higher degree (MSc) in a health related subject, or working towards.
